Level 2 Cable Technician:

Location: MAZ Data Center - Mesa, Arizona
Experience: 2 years or more (Low Voltage / Data Center / Construction)

Position Overview

We are seeking motivated Cable Technician 2's to support structured cabling and low-voltage installations within a data center environment. This is a hands-on, entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to build a career in telecommunications and technical infrastructure. Technicians will work as part of a team installing, routing, and terminating CAT5/CAT6 and fiber optic cabling to support server and network systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and route CAT5/CAT6 low-voltage cabling within a data center environment
  • Pull, dress, label, and organize cables using proper cable management techniques
  • Perform pre-termination work (measuring, tagging, and routing cable)
  • Terminate low-voltage devices (RJ45) and assist with basic testing
  • Install and support infrastructure including:
    • Cable tray systems, J-hooks, and supports
    • Racks, patch panels, and network closets
  • Assist with fiber optic installation and hardware setup
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints and project documentation
  • Complete required documentation (timesheets, work orders, etc.) accurately and on time

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years or more of experience in telecommunications, construction, or a related field
  • Knowledge of:
    • Low-voltage cable installation
    • Structured cabling or network installations
    • RJ45 terminations and color coding
    • Fiber optic cabling (basic knowledge)
    • Rack and stack or cable management systems
    • CAT5/CAT6 cabling
    • Hand and power tools
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work performed in a data center / construction environment (indoor and occasional outdoor conditions)
  • Ability to:
    • Stand and walk for 10-12 hours per day
    • Work on ladders, scissor lifts, and elevated surfaces
    • Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
    • Work in confined spaces when needed
  • Must be comfortable working extended hours (typically 50-60 hours/week) based on project demands
  • Weekend work is rare but may occur as needed

Tools & Equipment

Candidates should be familiar with or willing to learn the use of:
  • Hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, snips, tape measure, etc.)
  • Cable stripping and termination tools
  • Basic construction tools

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
