Bring your passion and commitment and we'll welcome you into a tight-knit team that takes our mission personally. Channel your drive to make a difference into shaping an organization and an industry that's evolving fast to the future.
At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?
In this role you will develop model predictive propulsion control algorithms that govern engine operation. These control algorithms coordinate multiple system inputs to optimize propulsion system thrust and other key system outputs. This challenging role also involves development of real-time dynamic engine models (digital twins) and associated onboard engine health estimation and sensor fault diagnostic algorithms.
What you Will Do:- Design, implementation, and validation of model predictive propulsion control systems from concept through engine test and entry into service.
- Develop real-time engine health parameter estimation algorithms
- Multivariable frequency domain analysis
- Planning and execution of control system verification and validation
- Collaborate with embedded software team to implement and verify the model predictive control and estimation software
- Participate in root cause determination and corrective actions related to engine test and field issues
- Rapid development of control algorithm software solutions to emerging hardware issues
- Participate in enhancing workflow standards for developing model predictive control and parameter estimation systems
What You Will Learn- Fundamentals of feedback control, model predictive control, and real-time optimization
- Principles of transient engine operation and engine performance
- Model-based systems engineering
- Real-time modeling of engine dynamics and estimation of engine health (digital twin)
Qualifications You Must Have:- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 2 years engineering experience or an advanced degree
- U.S. Citizen - The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
Qualifications We Prefer:- M.S. degree
- Industrial or academic experience demonstrating interest in feedback control system design and frequency domain analysis
- Experience developing physics-based models of turbo-machinery components by applying principles and methods from thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer and integrating component models into an overall engine model.
- Experience designing and analyzing estimation algorithms by applying methods and tools from multi-input multi-output dynamical linear system and estimation theories.
- Experience with statistical models and methods for modeling various uncertainty types and for processing simulation results and data.
- Experience with implementation and simulation of models and estimators in engineering computational environments such as Matlab/Simulink.
- Experience in physics-based modeling of gas turbine engines
- Experience developing physics-based dynamic models for system analysis and design.
- Successful application of analytical skills to solve complex engineering problems
- Solid track record of achieving results
- Outstanding cross discipline communication skills
