BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios. Advanced knowledge on design and configuration of the routing protocol BGP is not negotiable.
Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers.
Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation.
Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM.

Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.
Soft Skills
Strong communication skills to explain complex designs to varied stakeholders.
Problem-solving mindset for escalations and critical incidents.
Background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.
