Job Description:

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, reliability, and ongoing improvement of the organization's core technology infrastructure. This position plays a key role in ensuring the availability, recoverability, and operational stability of critical systems spanning on-premises platforms and integrated cloud services.

This role emphasizes thoughtful system design, operational reliability, and automation, with an expectation that repeatable infrastructure tasks are progressively converted into secure and maintainable automated solutions. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer serves as a senior technical resource and escalation point, working closely with operations and technology teams to ensure infrastructure services remain resilient, well-documented, and aligned with organizational needs.

DUTIES AND TASKS:

1. Design, implement, and maintain enterprise infrastructure systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, security, and operational consistency.

2. Develop and maintain infrastructure automation to reduce manual effort and improve operational consistency, including automation for provisioning, configuration, patching, certificate lifecycle management, and recovery workflows.

3. Support internet-facing infrastructure components, including load balancing and web delivery platforms, ensuring stable and reliable access to networked services.

4. Contribute to the maintenance and ongoing evolution of virtualization and compute platforms, with primary focus on Microsoft Hyper-V environments and familiarity with VMware-based systems, including consideration for modernization and hybrid integration over time.

5. Design, operate, and enhance enterprise backup and data protection solutions using Rubrik, Veeam, or comparable platforms, including retention strategy, recovery validation, and routine testing.

6. Support disaster recovery architecture and operational readiness using Azure Site Recovery or similar technologies, including development and maintenance of recovery plans, testing activities, and documentation.

7. Provide technical input into infrastructure monitoring and alerting standards, collaborating with operational teams to ensure system health, reliability, and availability requirements are effectively represented.

8. Act as a senior escalation resource during infrastructure incidents, assisting with troubleshooting, service restoration, and follow-up analysis to reduce recurrence and improve reliability.

9. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to infrastructure and operations staff, promoting standardization, sound engineering practices, and effective operational procedures.

10. Design, support, and improve core enterprise services including DNS, DHCP, IP address management, time synchronization, and certificate management.

11. Participate in datacenter infrastructure operations, including system lifecycle planning, capacity management, and execution of infrastructure changes.

12. Maintain and support server platforms through lifecycle activities including performance analysis, capacity tuning, patch management, and remediation of stability or reliability issues.

13. Assist with vendor and service provider engagements, including technical reviews, service coordination, and operational escalation for critical infrastructure services such as connectivity and hosting.

14. Produce and maintain documentation for system designs, operational procedures, recovery processes, and normal operating conditions to support sustainable operations.

15. Assume primary responsibility for the technical definition and evaluation of infrastructure initiatives, ensuring designs appropriately address reliability requirements, operational risk, and cost effectiveness.

16. Perform deep technical investigation of complex or emergent infrastructure issues when initial analysis is insufficient, applying expert diagnostic methods to identify root causes and guide effective resolution.

17. Remain current with evolving infrastructure, automation, and cloud technologies, applying improvements where appropriate to enhance stability and efficiency.

18. Interact professionally and effectively with internal partners, customers, and stakeholders, encouraging strong operational relationships.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA's):

1. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and 10 or more years of experience in infrastructure or systems engineering roles.

2. Demonstrated experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure with an emphasis on availability, recoverability, and reliable day-to-day operation.

3. Strong experience with virtualization platforms in production environments, particularly Microsoft Hyper-V, with VMware experience considered beneficial.

4. Practical, intermediate-level familiarity with Windows Server and Linux operating systems, including administration, troubleshooting, and management using modern hybrid management tools such as Azure Arc or comparable solutions.

5. Experience operating enterprise backup and recovery platforms such as Rubrik, Veeam, or similar solutions, including restoration testing and operational validation.

6. Hands-on experience supporting disaster recovery solutions, including Azure Site Recovery or equivalent technologies in hybrid environments.

7. Foundational experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure services and integrating cloud capabilities into on-premises environments.

8. Solid understanding of internet-facing infrastructure components including load balancing, web platforms, and transport security.

9. Demonstrated proficiency with automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell, Python, or similar tools used to support infrastructure operations.

10. Strong working knowledge of core enterprise services including DNS, DHCP, directory-integrated services, and certificate lifecycle management.

11. Experience implementing or supporting infrastructure monitoring solutions and alerting practices to enable effective incident response.

12. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across infrastructure layers including compute, storage, operating systems, and service dependencies.

13. Familiarity with structured change management and operational disciplines within production environments.

14. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document systems clearly and communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.

15. Ability to work independently on complex infrastructure tasks while collaborating effectively with operations and engineering peers.

16. Ability to manage priorities, respond calmly during service-impacting events, and follow issues through to resolution.
