The Director of Application Architecture leads a team of Application Architects and serves as a key technical leader within the organization. This role drives technical innovation, establishes and maintains the technology roadmap, and ensures architectural alignment across scrum teams. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the director operates as a hands-on technical expert, developing architecture initiatives and solutions while maintaining a deep understanding of each team’s technology stack and long-term roadmap.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a team of Application Architects, cultivating cross-functional partnership and professional growth. Oversee technical implementation of key Architecture deliverables by the Application Architects. Align the Application Architecture team members to the Agile Scrum SDLC. Maintain knowledge base of each team’s technology stack, architecture, and long-term roadmap. Promote architectural best practices and ensure consistency across teams.
  • Leads designing and implementing key architectural components or patterns, develops and implements architecture initiatives and technical solutions.
  • Drive technical innovation and evaluate emerging technologies for adoption. Define and maintain the enterprise application architecture strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborates with Product Owners, Engineering Managers, and Scrum Teams to align architecture with business objectives. Facilitate cross-team architectural discussions and decision-making.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience of 15+ years of experience in software development and architecture.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Advanced experience architecting OLAP and OTLP data management solutions.
  • Advanced methodologies, designs, and processes in technical areas of Event Driven Architecture, Data Architecture, ETL processing, data fabric, and data modeling.
  • Advanced experience in all database types including RDBMS, NoSQL (document, graph, columnar) and vector databases to support AI processing.
  • Experience in ERD, UML and Domain Driven Design methodologies and principles is highly desirable.
  • Advanced hands-on experience implementing data migration and data processing using Azure services: Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Synapse, Azure SQL DB, Event Hub, Service Bus, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Analysis Service, Azure Data Catalog, Cosmo Db.
  • Intermediate experience with other BI tools (Power BI, SSRS, SSAS and Tableau).
  • Advance experience using data modeling tools (Sparx enterprise architect, Toad, and/or Erwin).
  • Experience using structure, semi-structured, and unstructured content data types.
  • Experience in Azure and Big Data technologies (Python, ADLS/Blob, Apache Spark/SparkSQL, Databricks, HDInsight, Hive, Hadoop), file formats like Parquet, and streaming technologies (Kafka, EventHub, NiFi, etc.) is preferred but not required.
  • Intermediate experience with application development languages (C#, Java, NodeJS, and/or PHP) is desirable.
  • Proven experience managing architecture teams in an Agile environment, delivering technical solutions on time.
  • Experience in Data Lakehouse architecture and analytics data pipelines.
  • Experience utilizing AI LLMs and other models to deliver user-facing features and SDLC productivity utilizing MCP and Agentic AI workflows.
  • Expertise in modern application frameworks (React, MAUI, .Net), cloud platforms (Azure), and microservices architecture (Distributed Systems, Event-driven, Domain-Driven Design).
  • Expertise in modern distributed data architecture, with experience in relational, document, graph databases in a distributed system. 
  • Strong coding skills in languages such C#, Python, Typescript.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong staffing, development and appraisal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels.
  • Strong customer, quality and results orientation.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take prudent risks.

Compensation

The anticipated pay range/scale for this position is commensurate with experience. Actual starting base pay within this range will depend on factors including geographic location, education, training, skills, and relevant experience.

Additional Compensation

This position is eligible to receive a discretionary annual bonus.
