Position: Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Pompano Beach, FL (REMOTE mostly Once in a month onsite)
Contract: 6+ Months and extendable
Client: Vectorclimate
Description:
Cleva Technologies is seeking a highly disciplined, onsite Senior Embedded Systems & Firmware Engineer to oversee the optimization, debugging, and continuous refinement of our environmental control platforms.
Our product ecosystem features fully established mixed-signal control hardware that coordinates real-time multi-rate task scheduling, power actuation circuits, low-voltage sensor networks, and wireless communication submodules. With the physical PCBA layouts completed, we are seeking a dedicated firmware specialist to take full code ownership. The immediate focus centers on resolving legacy stability issues, optimizing boot sequences, streamlining release processing pipelines, and systematically hardening our operational software against field anomalies.
This role requires a daily, in-house operational presence on our production floor and engineering benches to work closely with existing hardware. For the right autonomous professional, this six-month engagement serves as an immediate runway toward a permanent engineering leadership position within our growing organization.
Core Responsibilities
● Firmware Optimization & Refinement: Own and maintain the real-time, deterministic task scheduler driving the system control loops. Audit and improve system boot sequences, peripheral initialization routines, and data restoration out of non-volatile memory blocks.
● Protocol & Shared Bus Management: Enforce strict, mutually exclusive scheduling profiles over shared high-speed SPI and serial networks to prevent data bus contention, signal degradation, or physical driver collisions.
● Wireless & Telemetry Synchronization: Manage bidirectional serial data streams, power-latching constraints, and communication watchdogs between the primary processor and auxiliary wireless transceivers.
● Legacy Bug Remediation & Bench Testing: Systematically work through our tracking registers to resolve high-priority stability issues, including screen timing, system resets, menu logic, and sensor-processing interlocks.
● Verification & Release Management: Validate all firmware modifications locally on the test bench utilizing emulation and debugging tools prior to production deployment. Refine post-build script processing to optimize production binary generation.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
● Microcontroller Expertise: Expert-level proficiency with register-heavy, low-power microcontrollers, specifically Texas Instruments MSP430 or equivalent 16-bit architectures.
● Wireless Integration: Proven hands-on experience configuring and managing ESP32-series wireless communication nodes and serial UART programming streams.
● Toolchain & Linker Mastery: Extensive experience using dedicated IDE environments (such as TI Code Composer Studio), customizing hardware linker scripts, and managing hex-generation utility post-build pipelines.
● Mixed-Signal Comprehension: Ability to deeply read complex electronic schematics, multi-layer PCBA layouts, and inter-board connector pin mappings to understand hardware-software boundaries.
● Methodical Discipline: Absolute commitment to thorough documentation, clear version control, and maintaining a 100% paperless cloud-based engineering workflow within corporate Google Workspace environments.
Preferred Secondary Capabilities
● Familiarity with Digital Signal Processor (DSP) communications or auxiliary host interface state machines.
● Intermediate to advanced Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout design and trace routing optimization skills (KiCad or equivalent EDA tools) for potential long-term hardware iteration phases.
Cultural & Operational Requirements
● Professional Accountability: Designed for an autonomous engineering partner who thrives on systematic structure, quiet dependability, and rigorous, high-conscientiousness execution.
● Confidentiality & Compliance: Adherence to a strict data security model. All source repositories and schematic files are highly confidential proprietary property and must remain exclusively inside corporate cloud networks under automated network logging protocols.
