Job Title: Senior Healthcare Integration Developer (Rhapsody & HL7)
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Senior Healthcare Integration Developer to support the development, maintenance, modernization, and production support of healthcare data exchange platforms and interfaces. This role supports health information exchange systems responsible for routing, transforming, validating, and delivering clinical and administrative healthcare data between internal systems, external partners, hospitals, laboratories, public health systems, and other healthcare stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, monitor, and support healthcare interfaces using Rhapsody Integration Engine and related integration technologies.
- Design and build interface routes, communication points, filters, transformations, mappings, and custom logic to support healthcare data exchange.
- Work with HL7 v2.x message types, including ADT, ORU, ORM, VXU, QBP, and related healthcare message formats.
- Analyze, transform, validate, and troubleshoot XML, JSON, FHIR JSON, CDA/CCD, and HL7 messages.
- Develop and maintain JavaScript logic within Rhapsody and related integration workflows.
- Support interface connectivity using TCP/IP, LLP/MLLP, RESTful web services, SOAP, WSDL, XSD, JAXB, and related protocols.
- Participate in requirements analysis, functional specifications, HL7 technical specifications, interface design, testing, and implementation.
- Work with business, technical, and downstream system teams to define interface workflows and data exchange requirements.
- Support unit testing, system testing, integration testing, defect resolution, and production validation.
- Troubleshoot production issues, including error queues, hold queues, failed messages, mapping issues, connectivity issues, and data quality defects.
- Migrate interfaces from lower environments into production and support post-go-live activities.
- Maintain technical documentation, interface specifications, test scripts, support procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Support healthcare data exchange related to MPI, MDM, clinical data, public health reporting, and downstream system integrations.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, and data teams to support secure, scalable, and reliable healthcare integration solutions.
- Assist with modernization efforts involving APIs, Java microservices, Kafka/event messaging, OpenShift/OCP, and cloud/container-based integration platforms as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting healthcare interfaces in a health information exchange, public health, hospital, payer, Medicaid, or healthcare data integration environment.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with HL7 v2.x messaging, including message analysis, transformation, routing, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Rhapsody Integration Engine.
- Experience developing routes, filters, mappers, communication points, and interface logic within Rhapsody.
- Strong experience with JavaScript in Rhapsody or similar healthcare integration engine environments.
- 4+ years of SQL experience, including writing queries for troubleshooting, data validation, research, and reporting.
- Experience with XML, JSON, FHIR JSON, and healthcare message/data formats.
- Experience with RESTful web services, SOAP web services, WSDL, XSD, and related integration protocols.
- Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
- Experience troubleshooting production healthcare interfaces, including message failures, queue issues, connectivity issues, mapping defects, and data quality problems.
- Strong understanding of healthcare interface workflows, data exchange, and integration lifecycle activities.
- Ability to create and maintain interface specifications, test scripts, technical documentation, and support documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
