Job Title: Master Data Specialist - Bill of Materials (BOM)Job DescriptionThe Master Data Specialist - BOM supports a major master data governance initiative in preparation for an upcoming ERP implementation. This contracted role focuses on standardizing and cleansing production-related data, particularly bills of materials, across multiple plants. The specialist works primarily remotely, with periodic on-site presence in the St. Louis or Illinois area, and collaborates closely with quality and operations stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
Responsibilities- Support the master data governance team in preparing production and BOM data for an ERP implementation.
- Analyze existing bills of materials, recipes, and quality-related data from multiple plants and identify inconsistencies and duplicate part numbers.
- Consolidate and standardize part numbers and BOM structures to create a centralized and consistent master data set.
- Collaborate closely with quality stakeholders to obtain detailed BOM information and verify that the information is complete and accurate.
- Review data received in Excel spreadsheets and determine whether additional information or clarification is required.
- Transform and format data from Excel into structures and templates that the organization's systems can read and process.
- Use intermediate Excel functions, including pivot tables and lookup formulas, to validate, reconcile, and cleanse data sets.
- Work comfortably with large volumes of numeric and production data to identify patterns, gaps, and anomalies.
- Operate effectively in situations where processes or requirements may not be fully defined and help bring structure to ambiguous data challenges.
- Contribute to documentation of data standards, naming conventions, and rules that support ongoing master data governance.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and quality, to ensure alignment on standardized master data.
- Support ongoing maintenance and updates of master data throughout the duration of the contract as new information becomes available.
Essential Skills- Experience working with production-related data sets such as bills of materials, recipes, and quality data.
- Proficiency as an intermediate Excel user, including the ability to build and use pivot tables and lookup functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, or similar).
- Strong comfort working with large data sets and numeric information, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to assess the completeness and accuracy of data and identify missing or inconsistent information.
- Comfort working in ambiguous situations and the ability to make progress when processes or requirements are not fully defined.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with quality and manufacturing stakeholders and clarify data requirements.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple data tasks within defined timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Previous experience working with ERP systems is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree is a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing-based organization is a plus.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems is beneficial.
- Background in data governance, master data management, or related disciplines is advantageous.
Work EnvironmentThis is a contract position estimated to last approximately 6 to 9 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs. The role is primarily remote, providing flexibility in daily work location, but requires the specialist to be local to the St. Louis or Illinois area. The specialist will work on-site at a local office approximately one day every other week to collaborate in person with team members and stakeholders. The environment centers on data-intensive work, using tools such as Excel and enterprise systems to manage and transform master data. The position involves regular interaction with quality and manufacturing teams, both virtually and during on-site visits, in a professional office setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
