Lead Clinical Terminologist Oncology / Real-World Data
Job Description
Recent advancements in underlying technology have made it possible for artificial intelligence (AI) to significantly impact clinical care. Modern data platforms now connect an ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, helping ensure the right treatments are delivered to the right patients at the right time.
With the rapid growth of healthcare data, providers often lack the systems or expertise to fully leverage this information. This role focuses on building and maintaining the infrastructure required to modernize and enhance cancer treatment by standardizing clinical data and improving data quality.
The Clinical Informatics and Terminology team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lead Clinical Terminologist who enjoys working with large and complex datasets to operationalize and quality-control the adoption of standard clinical terminologies into data pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and update terminology services used across the organization
Maintain and extend modeled ontology solutions utilized throughout enterprise data systems
Standardize clinical concepts from multiple data sources, including curated datasets, EHR integrations, and laboratory systems
Manage adjudication and quality control pipelines for new clinical concepts and domains
Proactively monitor and support quality assurance and process improvement initiatives
Monitor performance of production processes and recommend areas for operational improvements
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience working with standard medical terminologies, such as:
ICD-9 / ICD-10
SNOMED CT
RxNorm
LOINC
CPT
Working knowledge of UMLS and familiarity with NCI Metathesaurus (NCIm)
Experience developing and maintaining clinical ontology or terminology models
Experience working with real-world healthcare data from sources such as:
Electronic Health Records (EHRs)
Laboratory systems
Claims data
Clinical abstraction or curation workflows
Experience working with ELT / data pipeline tools supporting high-volume data processing
Familiarity with:
SQL
Python
Semantic Web technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL)
Awareness of healthcare interoperability standards such as:
HL7
FHIR
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Clinical background (e.g., PA, NP, RN, or similar)
Experience performing real-world data analysis using Python or SQL
Participation in professional organizations such as:
OHDSI
AMIA
Familiarity with the OMOP Common Data Model
