Job Description

Pay Range: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

This professional will work in a hybrid capacity out of one of the following offices:

The Senior Bioinformatics Engineer-LIMS is focused on advancing patient care through innovative software solutions. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain applications handling genetic data. Collaborating closely with the Data Science, Bioinformatics and lab teams, the developer will work in an agile environment, contributing to the modernization of our systems while enhancing their own technical skills.

Responsibilities

Feature Development:
  • Design, implement, and maintain software application.
  • Ensure user requirements and performance standards are met.
  • Create complex data workflows, pipelines, and RESTful/JSON-based APIs in an enterprise environment.

Cloud Deployment:
  • Deploy and manage applications for scalability and reliability.

Agile Collaboration:
  • Participate in agile workflows, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.

Quality Assurance:
  • Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality.
  • Conduct peer code reviews to uphold development standards.

Mentors Others:
  • Actively mentor junior and mid-level bioinformatics engineers, helping them map their career development, navigate technical challenges, and transition from task execution to systems-level thinking.
  • Lead internal technical workshops to cascade knowledge regarding emerging bioinformatics technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
  • Model and coach others on design patterns, clean coding principles, cloud architecture optimization, and clinical pipeline validation protocols.
  • Facilitate comprehensive onboarding for new team members and leverage regular pair-programming sessions to build technical confidence, foster psychological safety, and accelerate team velocity.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience:
  • 3+ Years of Relevant Experience.
  • Proficiency in modern software development practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing frameworks).
  • Experience with Python, Javascript.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies.
  • Test-driven development mindset and experience writing tests.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Work Experience:
  • Knowledge of the health industry or interest in genetics and bioinformatics.
  • Experience implementing solutions in the cloud. AWS is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and orchestrating complex data workflows, pipelines, and RESTful/JSON-based APIs.

Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in full stack development, including front-end, back-end, and databases.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous learning.

Skills:
  • Adaptability to new tools and technologies.

Work Environment:
  • Desk-Based Work: Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer (typically 8 hours per day).
  • Visual Acuity: Frequent and close visual concentration on computer screens, complex data visualizations, and extensive code repositories.
  • Remote Workspace: Requirement to maintain a dedicated, professional, and secure home office environment free from distractions.
  • Connectivity: Continuous access to a high-speed, secure, and reliable internet connection suitable for high-bandwidth virtual collaboration, video conferencing, and remote cloud infrastructure management.
  • Analytical Thinking: High capacity for sustained cognitive focus, logical reasoning, and complex, scientific problem-solving.
  • Effective Virtual Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate, build relationships, and align with remote and cross-functional team members.
  • Adaptability & Prioritization: Ability to self-manage, prioritize multiple competing tasks, and adapt to changing technical requirements or project scopes in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to code quality, security protocols, and data integrity, which is critical for clinical-grade validation.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field. (Required)
  • Advanced degree. (Preferred)
