Shift should be 6:00 am to 2:30 pm Monday - FridayThe IT Support Specialist I supports the reliable execution of nightly batch cycles, scheduled interface jobs, and enterprise monitoring activities in a federal IT environment. This entry-level operations role monitors job status, acknowledges and triages alerts, records outcomes, and escalates issues in time to protect the morning processing window.
The specialist works within established procedures and shift handoff practices while supporting the transition from cron- and script-based monitoring to managed cloud alerting and observability capabilities. The role provides Level 1 troubleshooting and operational support for production systems, with guidance from senior technical staff for complex issues.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor nightly batch cycles, scheduled interface jobs, and operational dashboards to identify failed, delayed, or abnormal processing conditions.
- Acknowledge, triage, document, and track alerts and incidents received through monitoring and on-call tools, ensuring timely disposition and escalation.
- Escalate unresolved batch, interface, and production issues before established morning processing deadlines to minimize operational disruption.
- Perform Level 1 troubleshooting using approved runbooks, known fixes, job logs, and standard operating procedures.
- Support batch and job-monitoring activities using Linux cron, Python and shell scripts, Semaphore, Oracle Enterprise Manager, IPMonitor, PagerDuty, and related enterprise tools.
- Maintain accurate shift records, incident notes, handoff documentation, and operational status updates to support continuous coverage and accountability.
- Review system and job performance indicators, identify recurring issues or trends, and elevate findings to senior team members for follow-up.
- Support the adoption of managed alerting, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure monitoring, and observability practices that improve reliability and reduce dependence on manual monitoring activities.
Required Qualifications- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Up to 2 years of experience in IT operations, technical support, systems administration, batch processing, or a related technical support environment.
- Experience monitoring scheduled jobs, batch processes, interfaces, or production applications and following documented operating procedures.
- Familiarity with Linux or similar operating-system environments, including basic command-line navigation, log review, and scheduled-task concepts.
- Basic experience or coursework in scripting, such as Python, shell scripting, or Bash, sufficient to review and support established operational scripts.
- Ability to perform Level 1 incident triage, document issue details accurately, apply known fixes, and escalate issues in accordance with established procedures.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure monitoring, observability, or enterprise cloud operations.
- Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Fusion Enterprise Scheduler Service, Semaphore, PagerDuty, IPMonitor, or comparable job-scheduling and alerting platforms.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate certification, or demonstrated progress toward achieving the certification.
- Experience supporting overnight, shift-based, or time-sensitive production operations requiring disciplined handoffs and escalation practices.
