Position Overview
The Cloud Specialist Contractor plays a key role in supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing operations of the agency’s public cloud environment. Reporting to the Public Cloud Specialist Team Lead, this position focuses on delivering secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions aligned with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
This role collaborates closely with infrastructure, development, and security teams to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and integration of cloud services within a hybrid enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, deployment, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure across public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Assist with cloud migration initiatives, including planning, execution, and validation.
- Integrate cloud environments with on-premises systems in hybrid architectures.
- Implement automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security; proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Apply and maintain security configurations in compliance with standards such as NIST and IRS Publication 1075.
- Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, applications, and connectivity issues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system configurations and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5–6 years of hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including deployment and support of cloud services.
- Strong understanding of core cloud components:
- Compute, storage, networking, and identity & access management (IAM)
- Experience with scripting and automation tools such as:
- PowerShell, Python, or Bash
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals:
- Knowledge of cloud security fundamentals:
- Access control, data protection, and compliance basics
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and support cloud-based systems in enterprise environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools:
- Terraform, ARM templates, or AWS CloudFormation
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments integrating on-premises and cloud systems
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks:
- NIST, IRS Publication 1075
- Experience with cloud monitoring, logging, and performance management tools
- Understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies in cloud environments
- Exposure to DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on documentation
