Position Overview

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a motivated Avionics Manufacturing Engineer to support the expansion of its in-house avionics manufacturing operations. This role offers the opportunity to directly influence manufacturing processes, production scalability, and operational excellence while supporting critical flight hardware used in cutting-edge space missions.

Based in Leander, Texas, this position will work closely with engineering, production, quality, and operations teams to improve efficiency, increase throughput, and ensure the successful delivery of avionics products that support Firefly's ambitious launch schedule.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support avionics manufacturing activities from initial design release through production delivery.
  • Identify and remove production bottlenecks while driving continuous process improvements.
  • Optimize and automate manufacturing and test processes to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Lead the implementation of new products and engineering design revisions into production.
  • Investigate production non-conformances and implement effective root cause corrective actions.
  • Partner with design engineering teams to improve manufacturability and drive product standardization.
  • Plan and execute production equipment, tooling, and facility upgrades to support manufacturing growth.
  • Develop and maintain production planning, quality, ERP, data collection, and reporting processes.
  • Support integration, testing, and launch operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the design, manufacturing, or production of electrical and/or mechanical hardware.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • Electronic box builds
    • Battery assembly/manufacturing
    • Cable harness fabrication
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong hands-on engineering mindset and passion for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and scaling high-volume manufacturing processes and production tracking systems.
  • Experience creating manufacturing processes for new product lines, particularly battery manufacturing.
  • Experience with equipment procurement, installation, and process implementation (such as laser wire stripping equipment).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Familiarity with IPC industry standards, including IPC-A-620.
  • Experience developing work instructions, operator procedures, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ERP platforms, and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
