Summary

Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer supports variousdepartments (Engineering, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain)through the development, evaluation, and implementation of processes related toDucommun's Quality Management System (QMS). Emphasis on knowledge of theseprocesses for metal bonding, titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, and superalloysis necessary. Furthermore, the Quality Engineer is responsible for reviewingand interpreting customer requirements. Through evaluation of this data, theQuality Engineer must create compliant work packages, documents, drawings, and AS9102First Article Inspection Reports. The Quality Engineer is a focal team memberwith respect to non-conforming products (NCR/MRR), Root Cause Corrective Action(RCCA) investigations, and Industry and Customer Audits.

Our Facility in Coxsackie, NY manufactures large, complex contoured structural components and assemblies for aerospace and other applications. Our integrated processes include stretch-forming, thermal-forming, chemical processing, precision fabrication, machining, finishing processes, and integration of components into subassemblies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs an analysis of customer engineering, quality, specification, and process requirements for new work packages.
  • Works closely with customer-facing engineering to support the performance center's delivery of quality product at a fast-paced production rate.
  • Performs customer purchase order review to understand customer quality requirements and ensures they are flowed to the appropriate personnel in our organization.
  • Incorporates appropriate tolerances and specifications into all planning documents as described by the Purchase Order and Engineering Drawings.
  • Possesses the ability to thoroughly understand and interpret complex engineering drawing and associated parts lists.
  • Assists with review of any customer requirements reflecting digital product definition using CAD/CAM/CAI Data are met when authorized by the customer for its use.
  • Supports the organization leadership on Lean implementation using Lean Systems as the principal tool.
  • Evaluates new processes and improve current process capability, efficiency, and overall productivity in all areas of manufacturing.
  • Participates in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and develop documents and test data, as required.
  • Participates in providing customers, source inspectors and suppliers interface, and must work cooperatively with them and their program team to ensure that all contractual quality requirements are satisfied.
  • Evaluates the robustness and risks of process and recommends improvement actions where appropriate.\
  • Provides support to cross-functional teams in problem solving for non-conformance product, quality escapements, and process capabilities and establishes definitive root cause and effective corrective actions.\
  • Executes product containment actions to protect the customer from non-conforming material arriving at their facilities.
  • Participates in root cause and corrective action investigation efforts resulting from MRB activity.
  • Participates in internal audit programs.
  • Prepares AS9102/FAI plans for all new products and parts which require partial-FAI.
  • Inspects product when/if there is a need and as requested.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and prepares necessary reports or data summaries as required.
  • Develops and updates quality documents such as the Control Plan, PFMEA, and Inspection Instructions as required.
  • Thoroughly complies with quality systems (ISO 9001, AS 9100, NADCAP) and Aerospace OEM system requirements.
  • Submits tags (i.e., Non-Conforming Product that requires customer disposition) to customers and closes out rejection reports.
  • Provides training or mentorship to other team members as needed. Assists plant personnel in maintaining the Quality
  • Systems Registration and highlighting areas for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for protecting and maintaining all Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) appropriately to prevent unauthorized access, dissemination, or use of this information, documentation, or products; including authorized and proper use of such information in regards to marking, storing, transmitting, and destruction of data.
  • Supports all visitors and security policies to protect ITAR/EAR/CMMC/CUI information, documents, products, etc. from unauthorized access by informing management immediately of any concerns.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field required, but will consider experience in lieu of education.
  • 5-7 years of experience of Quality Assurance, preferably in an aerospace manufacturing industry.
  • Must have experience utilizing CAD/3D software.
  • Must possess strong computer skills, i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, and Adobe.
  • Must have experience utilizing CAD/3D software; CATIA preferred but will train.
  • Requires proficiency in the design and manipulation of spreadsheet data.
  • Strong business acumen required with respect to manufacturing processes especially as they relate to sheet metal, tooling, fixtures, jigs and assembly.
  • Must possess strong computer skills, i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, & Adobe
  • Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices preferred.
  • Conscientious, organized and meticulous - records must be accurate and maintained.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate professionally with levels of the organization.
  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
  • Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must possess strong mechanical aptitude, ability to utilize measuring equipment, and hands-on capabilities to work on multiple projects at the same time without supervision.
Pay Range: $70,000-82,000/year
