POSITION SPECIFICS
Professional Track Teaching Faculty Position in Structural Engineering
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, professional track (non-tenure line), teaching faculty or Professor of Practice position in structural engineering. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, and contribute to the department through service and committee work.
Preference will be given to applicants with significant industry- and/or design-related U.S. experience and those who hold, or are expected to hold by the time of the appointment, a Doctoral degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field. Engineers with a M.S. degree and significant relevant industry experience are also invited to apply and will be considered for a Professor of Practice position. Candidates should be, or intend to be, licensed as a professional engineer (P.E.) and have demonstrated teaching experience through academic courses, professional conference presentations, or related activities. CEE faculty lead pioneering research in five key areas: Safe and equitable transportation systems, Sustainable solutions for water, Infrastructure resilience and adaptation, Decarbonization of the built environment, and AI for sustainability. CEE is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 36 faculty members, 16 staff members, more than 450 undergraduate students, and more than 120 graduate students and postdocs. Our programs are highly ranked by the U.S. News and World Report with top 15 and top 25 national rankings at the undergraduate and graduate levels, respectively. CEE is home to outstanding faculty members, including 7 NSF CAREER Award recipients and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. In Fall 2024, CEE moved to the new, LEED certified, Engineering Collaborative Research and Education (ECoRE) building, featuring 9 active-learning classrooms and 51,000 square feet in support of research with state-of-the-art laboratories.
