DevOps Engineer

Position Title : DevOps Engineer
Location: Hybrid Milwaukee, WI
Onsite: Monday Wednesday
Duration: Contract-to-Hire

Project Overview / Priorities
The company is moving from a primarily on premises environment into Azure cloud. The DevOps Engineer will not be doing migration work, but will support all operational needs, access, automation, tooling, and stability around a hybrid cloud environment. Key focuses include:

1. Supporting application development teams
2. Setting up/supporting Azure platforms, Terraform deployments, and Kubernetes environments
3. Automating use cases and improving existing workflows
4. Managing access, permissions, and environment readiness
5. Starting with operations work, then transitioning into project work
6. Supporting cloud governance and platform maturity

Day to Day Responsibilities Early Phase (Operations Focused)

1. Handle operational support tickets
2. Manage access/permissions change requests
3. Support development teams with Azure questions and environment needs
4. Understand existing systems and workflows
5. Maintain stability across onprem + cloud environments

Ongoing Work

1. Support app teams with cloud resources, pipelines, and deployments
2. Manage infrastructure via Terraform
3. Work within Kubernetes / containerized application environments
4. Enhance automated use cases and workflows
5. Maintain GitHub repos and branching strategies
6. Implement CI/CD improvements
7. Drive platform automation and standardization
8. Ensure security controls are embedded into pipelines
9. Collaborate with developers, architects, and infrastructure teams

Project Work (Later Phase)

1. Assist in cloud platform modernization
2. Build automated deployment pipelines
3. Help evaluate and introduce DevOps tooling
4. Implement monitoring, metrics, and observability
5. Participate in environment planning (onprem + cloud)

Key Responsibilities (Combined & Organized)

1. Support and maintain Azure cloud platforms
2. Build and refine Terraform IaC deployments
3. Support Kubernetes/containerized platforms
4. Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines
5. Manage GitHub repositories and code workflows
6. Ensure automation aligns with security best practices
7. Support stability and deployments across hybrid environments
8. Create technical documentation and assist with knowledge sharing
9. Troubleshoot issues across infra, cloud, app, and DevOps tooling layers
10. Evaluate tools, automation opportunities, and process improvements

Must-Have Requirements
Technical

1. Strong hands-on Azure Cloud experience
2. Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
3. Container orchestration (Kubernetes preferred)
4. CI/CD pipeline development (ideally Azure DevOps)
5. Git/GitHub experience
6. Experience maintaining web servers (IIS, NGINX)
7. Scripting and automation mindset
8. Strong debugging and analytical ability

Experience / Education

1. 5 7+ years in software or DevOps engineering environments
2. Experience coding in objectoriented, functional, or scripting languages
3. Experience working in agile/iterative environments
4. Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills
