WMATA is seeing a planning or data science professional with a passion for public transit, data science, and bringing data to decision-making to join the Ridership and Mobility Analysis team in Metros Office of Planning. Our team integrates and leverages big data to develop actionable intelligence on ridership, regional mobility, and the customer experience. Analyses cover a range of topics, including the impact of planned service changes, unplanned disruptions, special events, fare policy, changing regional travel patterns, equity, and more.
We are looking for an experienced transit data analyst and project managers to be our next Senior Ridership Analyst. In addition to strong technical data analysis skills, the right candidate will have demonstrated communications and data visualization skills to work with a variety of technical and non-technical audiences inside and outside Metro to assess analysis needs, design reports, develop analysis plans, manage projects, and bring data to decision-makers.
The Senior Ridership Analyst will work on projects related to Metros bus and rail ridership across a wide range of topics including fare analysis, forecasting, customer impact of service changes and policy proposals, tap- and no-tap ridership, geospatial travel demand, and more.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration, Transportation, Planning, Transportation Engineering, Economics, Data Science, or a related field
Minimum Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in business intelligence, data analytics, data science, urban planning, public policy, or a related field.
- A Masters Degree in urban planning, data science, public policy or a related field may be counted as two (2) years of experience.
This experience shall include at least three(3) years applyingskills in at least two of the following areas:
database querying and management (e.g. SQL) scripting languages (e.g.Python, Java) statistical languages (e.g. R, Stata, SPSS) data visualization tools(e.g. Tableau, PowerBI) Minimum Certification/Licensure N/A

SUMMARY The Senior Ridership Analyst conducts analysis of Metro's ridership and related data within the Ridership and Mobility Analysis team in the Office of Planning. The incumbent collaborates across teams and works with multiple large datasets to assess business needs, manage projects, and conduct analysis of data related to ridership, crowding, customer travel patterns, regional mobility, and related topics. The incumbent leads analysis teams, prepares data visualizations, fulfills data requests, develops and maintains dashboards, and creates reports and presentations to provide actionable information to both technical and non-technical internal and external stakeholders.
JOB DUTIES Principal Job Duties Analyzes ridership and related data Manages projects and leads analyst teams. Creates visualizations, dashboards, reports, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences, including executives and the Metro Board. Uses existing dashboards, models, software and other tools to evaluate ridership scenarios, monitor trends, and identify actionable insights. Fulfills requests for ridership and related data. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and maintains effective working relationships with other departments. Monitors data quality, investigates data quality issues, and performs data quality checks. Supports analysts and other end users with software, dashboards, databases, and other methods of accessing ridership and related data. Assesses business needs for ridership data and gathers requirements for ridership-related projects. Other Duties Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
