Senior Specialty Systems Operations Engineer (Mainframe Production Support)

We are not accepting C2C or 1099 arrangements.

Location: Chandler, AZ (preferred) or Des Moines, IA
Schedule: Flexible 8-hour shift between 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM PST
Employment Type: Full-time (no sponsorship available)
About the Role

We are looking for experienced Senior Specialty Systems Operations Engineers to support critical mainframe applications within a highly specialized production environment. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hands-on mainframe application support experience who thrive in high-availability systems and collaborative, global team models.

You will be part of a distributed team operating in a follow-the-sun support model, ensuring seamless production coverage alongside offshore partners.
Responsibilities
  • Provide Level 2/Level 3 production support for core applications including Automated Credit, Rewards, and Credit Card Hub
  • Monitor system health, stability, and uptime across mainframe platforms
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe job failures (JCL) and system issues
  • Perform root cause analysis and execute corrective actions
  • Partner with Production Control to restart, recover, and validate failed processes
  • Respond to business and application support requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate incident tracking and documentation using tools such as ServiceNow, JIRA, and Confluence
  • Manage application support mailboxes and coordinate issue resolution
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and create follow-up tasks or enhancements
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of mainframe production support experience (application support required)
  • Strong expertise in:
    • JCL, COBOL, CICS, DB2
    • CA7, IDCAMS, Mainview
  • Experience with file management and analysis tools (File Manager, File Analyzer, EZTRIEVE)
  • Familiarity with incident and workflow tools (ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence, or similar)
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, production-critical environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience with Dynatrace (Application Performance Monitoring)
  • 1-2 years of experience with MQ and system monitoring tools
  • Experience working in global delivery models or distributed teams
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a non-standard, highly specialized technical environment
Team & Work Environment
  • Team consists of U.S. and India-based engineers providing 24/7 coverage
  • Offshore team manages overnight operations; U.S. team supports daytime production
  • Daily coordination and knowledge transfer between teams is essential
  • Flexible shift start times within standard support hours
