Job Overview:
This position provides advanced Java development support for the agency s existing system and the ongoing migration to an updated state-federal-tribal information exchange platform. The candidate will serve as a key technical contributor responsible for operational support of the legacy application while advancing development and integration work required for the platform transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day operational support for the primary application, including troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance monitoring.
- Support and contribute to the technical migration effort, including data conversion, application redevelopment, and system integration activities.
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain Java-based application code in accordance with agency standards and project requirements.
- Develop, consume, and modify APIs to support integration between systems and related external applications.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot advanced Oracle database queries, procedures, and data structures supporting application functionality.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders and technical leads to ensure continuity of operations and successful delivery of migration milestones.
- Document technical processes, system changes, and development activities to support knowledge transfer and continuity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the application stack, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required Skills:
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-level Java applications.
- Expertise in complex query development, performance tuning, and data structure design using Oracle databases.
- Experience creating, consuming, and modifying APIs to support system-to-system integration.
- Experience migrating legacy applications to new platforms, including data conversion and system cutover planning.
- Ability to work across requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment phases.
- Experience providing operational support for live systems, including defect diagnosis and resolution under time constraints.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to support and accelerate development activities.
- Experience with dashboard development using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Additional Information:
This role supports an agency information system and requires the ability to work independently on both operational support and active migration and development efforts. The position requires close coordination with the broader project team to maintain continuity of current operations while advancing system development goals.
