About the Role
Our team is partnering with a leading national insurance and financial services organization to recruit an experienced Database Administrator. This company operates large-scale enterprise systems that support high-volume transactions and complex data environments. In this role, you will support critical mainframe database operations, ensure system performance, and collaborate closely with development teams and business users to maintain reliable, secure, and optimized data structures.

Job Description
In this role, you will administer and maintain enterprise databases that support large-scale, high-volume operations. You will collaborate with development teams and end users to understand data access needs, optimize performance, and ensure reliable and secure database functionality across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the organization’s databases using database management systems to organize and store data
  • Determine user requirements, set up computer databases, and test and coordinate changes
  • Partner with development and end-user teams to analyze data access needs, transaction rates, and volume requirements
  • Monitor and ensure overall database performance
  • Coordinate physical changes to databases and code, test, and implement database updates
  • Design logical and physical databases or review proposed design changes to assess impacts on storage, space, and access methods
  • Establish physical database parameters
  • Code database descriptions and specify identifiers for the database management system or guide others in this process
  • Calculate optimal database parameter values such as memory allocation
  • Define user access levels for data segments, including insert, replace, retrieve, and delete functions
  • Specify which users can access particular databases and data elements
  • Test, correct errors, and refine database changes
  • Enter codes to create production databases
  • Select and enter codes for utility programs used to monitor performance, including record distribution and available memory
  • Direct programmers and analysts on updates to the database management system and review/correct their programs
  • Answer user questions regarding database operations
  • Collaborate with coworkers to evaluate the impact of database changes on other systems and estimate associated staff costs
  • Modify database programs to enhance processing performance (performance tuning)
  • Specialize in one or more types of database management systems
  • Train users when necessary

Qualifications
Required
  • Mainframe database administration experience with IMS and Db2 for z/OS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Preferred
  • Experience coordinating changes across multiple systems in a large enterprise environment
  • Familiarity with performance tuning methods for high-volume mainframe databases
  • Ability to collaborate with development teams and end users in complex technical environments
