Position Overview
The State of Texas is seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Solutions Architect / AWS Cloud Architect III to support the remediation, migration, and modernization of a legacy AWS cloud environment.
The Architect will assess existing AWS workloads, address identified security vulnerabilities and technical risks, and migrate resources into a standardized and secure AWS Landing Zone aligned with approved architecture, governance, security, and compliance standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, cloud security, infrastructure remediation, migration, AWS Landing Zones, IAM, networking, logging, monitoring, and encryption.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing AWS workloads and identify technical, security, and configuration risks.
- Remediate AWS security findings and vulnerabilities in accordance with established security standards.
- Support migration of legacy AWS resources into a standardized and secure AWS Landing Zone.
- Design, deploy, update, and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Implement AWS security best practices across:
- Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Network Security
- Logging and Monitoring
- Encryption
- Security Controls
- Support cloud remediation, migration, modernization, and infrastructure standardization activities.
- Ensure AWS environments follow approved architecture, security, governance, and compliance standards.
- Validate compliance with DIR security policies and audit requirements.
- Execute defined remediation and migration activities under general direction.
- Develop technical documentation, implementation plans, configuration documentation, and operational artifacts.
- Collaborate with cloud engineering, infrastructure, security, governance, and application teams.
- Support hybrid/shared-service scenarios involving Microsoft Azure.
- Troubleshoot issues associated with legacy AWS environments and remediation activities.
- Contribute to repeatable, consistent, and auditable infrastructure deployment practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 14+ years of overall IT experience in cloud, infrastructure, systems engineering, or related disciplines.
- Hands-on experience supporting AWS environments.
- Strong experience working in enterprise AWS environments.
- Prior experience with AWS legacy environment remediation.
- Experience with cloud security remediation, vulnerabilities, findings, or security controls.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Experience with AWS remediation, migration, modernization, or infrastructure transformation.
- Knowledge of AWS security best practices and the AWS Shared Responsibility Model.
- Experience working within documented architecture, security, governance, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with AWS Landing Zone concepts and standardized cloud environments.
- Experience with AWS IAM, network security, logging, monitoring, and encryption.
- Experience producing technical documentation and implementation artifacts.
- Working/supporting experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly hybrid or shared-services environments.
- Strong communication, analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Texas DIR security standards and compliance expectations.
- Experience supporting TxDOT or other Texas State Agencies.
- Previous experience working in public-sector / government environments.
- Experience with enterprise cloud governance and security frameworks.
- Experience supporting large-scale AWS remediation and migration initiatives.

- Candidate must currently reside within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Texas.
- 5 days onsite in Austin – No Remote Work.
- F2F interview is mandatory.
- Minimum 14+ years of experience required.
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.
