Application Support Engineer

Job at a Glance

• Location: Hybrid in Richmond, VA
• Contract: W2 only, 12 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time 
• Pay: $70/hr

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and manage application infrastructure to support data teams and platform environments.
• Monitor system performance using dashboards, logs, and external monitoring tools, and perform performance tuning of queries, servers, and data source connections.
• Conduct query profiling, troubleshoot slow queries, and perform backups, recovery operations, and environment maintenance.
• Apply object tagging, data classification, retention, and sharing policies across supported platforms.
• Manage authentication and authorization including user roles, ABAC/RBAC, and LDAP/AD integration.
• Review and remediate governance and security violations while enforcing SSO, MFA, and access control policies.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organizational governance requirements including SOX or regulatory compliance.
• Resolve complex application errors, connectivity issues, and performance bottlenecks through root-cause analysis.
• Coordinate with application vendors and manage support cases through resolution.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, DevOps, infrastructure teams, and business users as a support partner.
• Monitor platform usage, credits, warehouse activity, and storage to manage cost and prevent overspending.
• Implement usage dashboards, resource monitors, and scaling policies to optimize compute consumption.
• Develop test cases and validate results for supported applications.
• Coach and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members.
• Exercise independent judgment in planning, organizing, and executing work assignments.
• Participate in an on-call rotation providing first-line system support during nights and weekends.

Required Skills

• Experience with scripting languages including Shell, R, Python, PowerShell, or Perl,
• Experience supporting Kubernetes and high-availability environments, including diagnosing and resolving connectivity, security, and functional issues.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including understanding system communication, issue resolution, and cost considerations.
