Sr. Buyer Data Center Construction Services for a
direct placement assignment with one of our premier
Utility services clients in
Detroit, MI.
The Senior Buyer, Data Center Construction Services, is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts for large scale data center builds, expansions, and critical infrastructure upgrades. This role partners closely with construction, engineering, facilities, and project management teams to ensure cost effective procurement of services while maintaining schedule integrity and vendor performance.
Responsibilities :
- Strategic Sourcing: Lead sourcing events for data center construction services including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and low voltage trades.
- Contract Negotiation: Develop, negotiate, and execute MSAs, SOWs, and commercial terms with general contractors and specialty subcontractors.
- Vendor Management: Evaluate supplier capabilities, performance, safety records, and capacity for multi site builds.
- Cost & Schedule Control: Analyze bids, validate cost models, and ensure alignment with project budgets and timelines.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify supply chain risks, long lead items, and labor constraints; implement mitigation plans.
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, design, finance, and legal to support project execution.
- Market Intelligence : Track trends in data center construction, materials, labor markets, and regional capacity.
Required Skills:
- 7-10+ years of procurement experience in construction, data centers, mission critical facilities, or large scale industrial builds.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, critical power, cooling infrastructure, and commissioning workflows.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex construction contracts.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting multi-site or hyperscale data center programs preferred.
