Description Manage and lead power system protection and control design of substation projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for substation project needs and requirements. Prepare electrical equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations. Maintain and deploy extensive knowledge of power system engineering, electrical power system protection applications, fault calculations and substation design engineering. Apply expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry. Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers. Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications. Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers. Responsible for QA/QC process adherence. Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines. Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies. Primarily domestic travel up to 25% of the time is required based on project needs.
Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus seven (7) years of electrical engineering experience in substation. Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus six (6) years of electrical engineering experience in substation in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus seven (7) years of described experience.
*A Bachelor's Degree in any Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Must have seven (7) years of experience in each of the following:
- Electrical Power Systems Equipment Design and relevant ANSI, IEC and IEEE Standards.
- Design and implementation of power system protection principles, relay protection and control schemes, and relay coordination techniques in a utility or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding and application of NERC and FERC regulations pertaining to Power systems protection and control design and calculations.
- Develop and review electrical design packages for utility or industrial facilities including one lines, AC-DC schematics, wiring diagrams, power system study reports and calculations.
- Provide engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations or industrial facilities.
- Hold a PE license or have the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
