Summary

Please note: This role is contingent upon a contract award. While it is not an immediate opening, we are actively conducting interviews and extending offers in anticipation of the award.

ICF is seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to lead the design and governance of secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native solutions in complex, regulated enterprise environments. This role is central to enterprise modernization initiatives requiring strong architectural leadership, security alignment, and DevSecOps mindset.

The ideal candidate offers deep expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS), enterprise cloud governance, and secure platform architecture. This role requires strategic architectural oversight and technical credibility across infrastructure, applications, and data domains.

Working with client leadership and technical SMEs, this role will help define the modernization approach for a portfolio of applications. The architect will support analysis of dozens of applications, including on-premises and cloud-hosted systems, COTS products, and custom-built applications, to recommend the right modernization path and target cloud environment. The architect will help establish a repeatable factory model of standards, patterns, and architecture guidance for the current application portfolio, with specific focus on workloads moving to AWS.

Job Location: This position is remote within the United States.

Please note that ICF monitors employee work locations, restricts access from foreign locations and IP addresses, and prohibits the use of personal VPN connections.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Analyze the current state and architect secure AWS cloud environments, including enterprise landing zones, identity integration, hybrid connectivity, and high-availability design for the modernized environment.
  • Create a factory model for modernizing cloud applications that development teams will use.
  • In coordination with the data architect, assess data architectures, dependencies, integration patterns, and system-of-record strategies to support application rationalization and modernization, including shared data sources, APIs, and data hub enablement.
  • Design cloud architectures that support long-term sustainment, including continuous monitoring, patching, annual maintenance releases, operational readiness, and post-ATO operations.
  • Serve as a senior portfolio architect, providing architectural leadership and decision-making across multiple concurrent application modernization efforts in coordination with Azure and platform architecture leads.
  • Lead and support application rationalization activities, including complexity assessments, disposition recommendations, and modernization sequencing.
  • Define and govern shared cloud services and patterns, including identity, networking, security, CI/CD, observability, and data integration, for use across development teams.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures, technical standards, and governance controls to ensure consistent and compliant cloud implementations across multiple modernization efforts.
  • Lead architectural design reviews and approve solution designs to maintain alignment with enterprise security, compliance, and modernization strategies.
  • Integrate infrastructure-as-code, policy enforcement, and automated security controls into DevSecOps pipelines using modern CI/CD and automation practices.
  • Maintain alignment with security control frameworks and formal authorization environments, including role-based access management and continuous monitoring approaches.
  • Support FinOps, scalability planning, performance optimization, availability, and disaster recovery strategies across AWS environments.
  • Provide architectural direction for cloud-native, containerized, and data-driven workloads supporting enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Partner with engineering, security, and operations teams to ensure solutions are supportable, maintainable, and consistent with enterprise standards.

What You Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional (required).
  • 10+ years of experience architecting and leading enterprise cloud solutions across complex, multi-team environments.
  • 8+ years of experience across multiple technical domains, including network infrastructure, application development, data platforms, or low-code/no-code technologies.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience designing secure AWS environments within regulated enterprise settings that require formal security authorization and continuous compliance oversight.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing infrastructure-as-code and integrating automated security validation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting cloud governance, compliance alignment, and continuous monitoring frameworks.
  • 3+ years of experience operating within hybrid and multi-cloud enterprise environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in modernizing large application portfolios and establishing architectural standards across multiple concurrent initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience aligning cloud architectures to established security and compliance control frameworks.
  • Experience designing enterprise landing zones and policy enforcement models.
  • Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps strategies.
