Role Summary
This position entails serving as a senior F5 Principal Network Engineer responsible for overseeing and executing network modernization projects across multiple data centers. The role involves leading migration planning, implementing high-availability architectures, and supporting platform upgrades primarily focused on F5 BIG-IP environments. This is a critical role requiring expert-level knowledge to ensure seamless migration and robust network security configurations within a defined project timeline.
Responsibilities
- Lead assessment and detailed migration planning for F5 i-Series to R-Series platform upgrades across six devices in two data centers.
- Support the design and deployment of an Always-On VPN solution utilizing F5 Access Policy Manager (APM), ensuring high availability and secure remote access.
- Provide consultation on Active/Active and High Availability (HA) network architectures for critical workloads, collaborating with engineering teams and senior stakeholders.
- Install, configure, and validate the F5 Application Study Tool for traffic discovery, traffic management, and migration support purposes.
- Develop and enhance architecture documentation to improve existing environment clarity, serving as a primary resource for future reference.
- Coordinate and execute configuration activities within scheduled change windows, ensuring compliance during change freeze periods.
- Produce comprehensive operation runbooks, design documentation, and handoff materials to facilitate ongoing operational support.
- Collaborate with network, security, and existing F5 engineers to ensure knowledge transfer, validation of implementations, and adherence to best practices.
- Assist in developing HA and load balancing strategies, including GTM/BIG-IP DNS design to optimize traffic management.
- Contribute to troubleshooting, performance tuning, and ongoing management of F5 BIG-IP appliances and associated network infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Expert-level experience in F5 BIG-IP administration, architecture, and troubleshooting (LTM, TMOS).
- Proven experience with F5 i-Series to R-Series platform migrations and system modernization projects.
- In-depth knowledge of F5 Access Policy Manager (APM), VPN design, and high availability configurations.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL, and certificate management.
- Ability to independently produce technical documentation, runbooks, and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Experience deploying and operating F5 Application Study Tool for traffic analysis.
- Familiarity with GTM/BIG-IP DNS design and traffic management strategies.
- Preferred skills include F5 SSL Orchestrator (SSLO), Advanced WAF experience, automation involving Ansible or Terraform, and F5 professional certifications (F5-CA, CTS, or CSE).
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision given team constraints, with flexibility to adapt during discovery and HA workstream phases.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Publishing Pay Range: $65.00 - $75.00 Hourly
