AWS Certified Developer

Introduction

The AWS Certified Developer will design, build, and maintain scalable cloud applications using the AWS ecosystem. This role supports the City of Austin’s modernization and cloud transformation initiatives by developing secure, high-performance solutions for public services, internal applications, and data platforms. The developer will collaborate with cloud architects, DevOps engineers, and city departments to implement reliable cloud-based systems that improve operational efficiency and citizen services.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Application Development
    • Design and develop cloud-native applications using AWS Lambda, Amazon EC2, and AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
    • Build serverless and microservice architectures to support city digital services.
    • Develop and maintain APIs using Amazon API Gateway.
  • Cloud Data & Storage Integration
    • Implement scalable storage solutions using Amazon S3.
    • Develop database integrations using Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon RDS.
    • Ensure secure and efficient data processing across city systems.
  • DevOps & Deployment
    • Develop CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline and AWS CodeBuild.
    • Automate infrastructure deployment using AWS CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
    • Containerize applications using Docker and deploy using Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS.
  • Monitoring & Security
    • Monitor cloud environments using Amazon CloudWatch.
    • Implement secure authentication and access control using AWS IAM.
    • Ensure compliance with city cybersecurity policies and best practices.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
    • Work with business stakeholders and IT teams to gather technical requirements.
    • Document system architecture, APIs, and deployment processes.
    • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for cloud-based applications.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience
    • 3+ years of software development experience.
    • 2+ years working with AWS.
    • Experience building and deploying cloud-based applications.
  • Certification
    • AWS Certified Developer – Associate or equivalent cloud certification.
  • Technical Skills
    • Programming languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or C#
    • RESTful API development
    • Cloud architecture and microservices
    • CI/CD and DevOps automation
    • Infrastructure as Code
    • Cloud security best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Terraform
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Experience integrating municipal or government systems
  • Knowledge of cloud cost optimization and performance tuning

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Understanding of scalable cloud architecture
