Job Description - Senior Software QA Consultant (Automation / Quality Engineering)
Location: REMOTE from AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MN, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, OH, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY)
Duration: 6-month contract (likely extension or conversion to FTE)
Overview
We're looking for a Senior Software Quality Assurance Consultant to lead enterprise-level quality engineering and automation efforts. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role focused on driving automation across all layers (UI, API, services, infrastructure, cloud) and advancing CI/CD maturity.
This person will partner closely with engineering, DevOps, and leadership teams to improve quality practices, build scalable automation frameworks, and influence how software is tested and delivered across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Define and drive enterprise QA and quality engineering strategy
- Provide guidance on scaling QA teams, tools, and processes
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning, skills development, and team maturity
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve automation and overall engineering quality
Automation & Quality Engineering
- Design and evolve automation frameworks across UI, API, and backend services
- Lead automation efforts for regression, performance, scalability, and resiliency testing
- Drive CI/CD improvements including automated testing, quality gates, and continuous testing
- Establish enterprise testing standards, documentation, and best practices
- Oversee test case management tools and integrations
Quality Advocacy & Collaboration
- Promote testing best practices across Agile/DevOps teams
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions
- Partner with engineering, product, and security teams to ensure high-quality releases
- Mentor QA engineers and elevate automation capabilities across teams
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in QA / Quality Engineering
- Strong background in automated testing across UI, APIs, services, and cloud environments
- Experience designing automation frameworks (Selenium or similar tools)
- 7+ years working with CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing
- Experience in Agile and DevOps environments
- Strong experience with AWS and/or Azure
- Solid understanding of testing types: regression, performance, E2E, integration, etc.
- Scripting/programming experience (Java, TypeScript, or similar)
- Experience with tools like Git, Bitbucket/GitLab, JIRA, Confluence
- Prior leadership or mentorship experience
