About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Technician II to support the Structural Test team within Launch Systems at our Chandler, Arizona facility. In this role, you will work across multiple launch vehicle programs, playing a hands-on role in the build-up, execution, documentation, and teardown of structural static load tests. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined technician who thrives in a team-based, fast-paced test environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support in the Structural Test Bay by collaborating closely with technicians and engineers to develop, assemble, test, and document structural test hardware.
Support structural static load testing activities across multiple launch vehicle programs.
Assemble fixtures and test setups and assist engineers with test setup development and improvements.
Perform hands-on mechanical work ranging from small, detailed components to large, heavy structures.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work packages to ensure accurate execution of test plans.
Record test data accurately and support test documentation activities. Maintain a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Adhere to and support enforcement of safety procedures and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements.
Respond effectively and safely to dynamically changing test conditions.
Communicate clearly and effectively with teammates, engineers, and supervisors.
Support schedule, cost, and resource considerations to meet program objectives.
Occasional overtime may be required (less than 10%).
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years of additional education and/or relevant hands-on experience
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
Experience working with:
Engineering drawings and schematics
Work instructions or work packages
Data collection and recording
Proficiency with common hand tools
Ability to lift and handle objects up to 50 lbs
Comfortable performing hands-on work involving large, heavy hardware
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong teamwork mindset with a positive, proactive attitude
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S practices
Familiarity with manufacturing or test execution systems (e.g., MES, Costpoint)
Experience working with pressurized hydraulic systems
Forklift operation experience
Overhead crane operation and lifting of large structural components
Soldering experience
Instrumentation experience, including:
Installing and bonding strain gages
Installing linear displacement transducers (LDTs)
