Summary
Location: Toronto, ON | Hybrid
Duration: 6 months
Responsibilities
The Data Architect will be responsible for designing scalable data architecture and defining data models that support enterprise analytics, reporting, and operational systems. The role involves translating business requirements into technical architecture while working closely with engineering teams and stakeholders.
The position is approximately 80% architecture and solution design and 20% hands-on technical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise data architecture and scalable data models.
- Architect data pipelines and ingestion frameworks for large-scale datasets from multiple source systems.
- Define data integration strategies and ETL pipelines across the Azure ecosystem.
- Design and maintain data warehouses and data lakes optimized for performance and scalability.
- Build logical and physical data models, including multidimensional modeling to support analytics and reporting.
- Define data flow, data transformations, and integration patterns across systems.
- Collaborate with data engineers, database administrators, and business stakeholders to ensure data accessibility and usability.
- Address data migration challenges including validation, mapping, and data cleansing.
- Document data architecture, technical processes, and data movement strategies.
- Ensure data governance, security, and quality standards are met.
- Define data architecture standards, best practices, and guidelines for engineering teams.
- Support integration of producer compensation platforms and SaaS business systems.
- Work closely with the Enterprise Data Office to align with enterprise data governance and data movement strategies.
- Implement scalable solutions using partitioning, distributed processing, and performance optimization techniques.
- Cloud: Microsoft Azure
- Data Platforms: Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Databricks
- Data Processing: Spark, Hadoop
- Integration & ETL: Informatica, ETL pipelines
- Databases: RDBMS & NoSQL
- Programming: Python (primary), Java (nice to have)
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Engineering / Data Architecture
- Strong experience with data warehouse design and data modeling
- Experience designing large-scale enterprise data solutions
- Strong understanding of ETL and data integration tools
- Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL
- Experience designing data pipelines and data architecture frameworks
- Proficiency in Python for data engineering
- Experience with Databricks
- Knowledge of Medallion Architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold layers)
- Azure certifications
- Basic knowledge of Java
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder communication skills
