The Strategic Brand and Marketing team plays a critical role in advancing UW Medicine's mission and priorities.
Our team of more than 50 professionals supports both the health system and the UW School of Medicine, spanning brand and marketing strategy, web and digital experience, content and design, and sponsorships.

In addition to exceptional design skills, the ideal candidate will be able to translate user needs, business requirements and technical constraints into thoughtful designs and understand how design and content strategy work together to create intuitive, accessible, and engaging experiences.
The UX Designer collaborates with digital experience team members, web developers, and stakeholders to continuously improve the
uwmedicine.org experience for key audiences and support the organization's business goals, particularly patient acquisition goals.
This position is critical to the success and reputation of UW Medicine. The way we organize and design patients' paths across the site helps people navigate our vast range of care services and find the location and care providers that fit their needs when they need them most.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUX Designer Strategy and Implementation - 70%- Partner with product, engineering, content strategists, and stakeholders to define user problems and design data-driven solutions.
- Translate user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints into accessible, intuitive UX designs that improve online access to care.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and information architecture at varying levels of fidelity to inform and test development-ready designs.
- Participate in and apply insights from user research activities (e.g., interviews, journey mapping, usability testing, A/B testing, analytics) to iterate and refine designs.
- Proactively explore and identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools and solutions.
- Apply industry best practices and innovations to enhance design workflows, improve user experiences, and increase efficiency across digital platforms.
- Contribute to and evolve UW Medicine's design systems, patterns, accessibility standards, and UX best practices.
- Clearly communicate design rationale and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners throughout the development lifecycle.
Content Development & Brand Alignment - 30%- Partner with business owners to define user stories and acceptance criteria for iterative design within Agile Scrum.
- Maintain the digital style guide to ensure consistent experiences across UW Medicine websites and applications.
- Collaborate with the Creative team to ensure brand compliance, accessibility standards, and consistent interaction patterns for digital platforms.
- Work with content strategists and editors to align language, tone, and structure with interface design to best guide and serve users.
- Stay informed about advances in AI and related technologies, and partner with stakeholders to evaluate and apply these innovations in ways that align with organizational goals and ethical standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Bachelor's degree in design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional UX design, information architecture, and interaction design, including wireframes, prototypes, and user flows; conducting user research and usability testing; and applying accessibility and usability standards for websites and applications.
Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Additional Requirements. - Ability to translate business goals, user needs, and content strategies into effective design solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of building, maintaining, and evolving design systems.
- Strong understanding of usability heuristics, accessibility best practices, and emerging accessible solutions.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly through both visual and verbal means.
- Proven ability to develop and advocate for UX strategy recommendations in alignment with organizational goals.
- Experience collaborating with content strategists, marketers and other stakeholders to ensure clear, consistent, and effective user messaging.
- Advanced proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, with experience partnering closely with development teams.
- Experience or demonstrated curiosity in applying AI-assisted design, research, or analytics tools to improve delivery and outcomes.
- Ability to build trust, foster partnerships, and deliver strong client service across the organization.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Five years experience performing UX Design in a healthcare system, educational institution, or large nonprofit.
- Experience using analytics software and accessibility tools such as Google Analytics, SiteImprove, and DubBot.
