Summary

Software Engineer, Geometry & Simulation (C++) - Automate the Path from CAD Model to Cast Metal Part

Billerica, MA | On-site

Opportunity Summary

An early-stage advanced manufacturing company is building a software-driven foundry that turns customer CAD files into precision metal castings for aerospace, defense, and industrial programs in a fraction of the usual lead time. The software that prepares each part for production is a core part of that advantage.

You will build the C++ geometry and simulation pipeline that takes customer models and turns them into manufacturable, validated production jobs. That includes slicing, support generation, manufacturability checks, and generating machine instructions. You will report to the CTO and work directly with the engineers and operators who use your software every day.

About Us

We are an early-stage, well-capitalized advanced manufacturing startup rebuilding domestic metal casting capacity for aerospace, defense, and energy customers. Backed by leading venture firms and strategic aerospace and defense investors, the company has a production foundry up and running, is shipping parts to customers, and plans to bring additional foundries online as demand grows. The founding team comes from top commercial space and metal additive manufacturing companies, and every employee works on-site, close to the physical process.

Job Duties
  • Build and extend pipelines that prepare customer part geometry for production
  • Develop software that automatically slices, supports, and validates incoming geometry
  • Write manufacturability analysis tools that catch problems before a part reaches the floor
  • Generate machine instructions and production workflows directly from part geometry
  • Support process simulation efforts that inform how parts are laid out and produced
  • Connect geometry tools with factory workflows, operator tools, and equipment
  • Partner with manufacturing, process engineering, and operations to turn production problems into software solutions

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong programming skills in modern C++ (C++17), which will be your primary language
  • Experience building geometry processing software, automation tools, backend systems, or technical internal tools
  • Strong debugging and systems-level thinking
  • Comfortable working where requirements are loosely defined
  • Clear communicator with both software engineers and non-software teammates
  • Interest in manufacturing, geometry, hardware, or physical processes, and willingness to work on-site
  • U.S. person status (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) required under ITAR

Preferred Experience
  • Background in computational geometry, CAD/CAM, slicing, additive manufacturing, simulation, or robotics
  • Processing or preparing 3D models for manufacturing
  • Python experience
  • Exposure to MES platforms or factory automation
  • Cloud deployment on AWS, containerization, or batch compute
  • Early-stage startup experience

Why Join Us
  • Build core software for a brand-new manufacturing process from the ground up
  • See your code turn digital models into physical metal parts
  • Own broad, high-impact systems at an early stage
  • Help define how software and automation scale a modern foundry
  • Early-employee equity with real upside as the company expands from one foundry to many
  • Fast career growth: early hires are expected to step into technical leadership as the team scales
  • Small, hands-on team with no bureaucracy, where decisions happen in days rather than quarters
  • A mission that matters: rebuilding domestic production of castings used in aircraft engines, defense systems, and energy infrastructure
  • Competitive base salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) plan
  • Unlimited PTO
