DutiesHelp
- Serves as an IA point of contact for internal and external audit organizations and provides audit assistance, support, and coordination, as necessary, relating to security standards and requirements for automated information systems.
- Implements and enforces all DoD Information Assurance (IA) program policies and procedures for DFAS systems as defined by the security certification and accreditation documentation.
- Prepares risk assessments for DFAS information systems using supporting automated assessment tools
- Analyzes system specifications and trouble reports to determine impact on system functions, feasibility, and interaction/interrelationship with other subsystems.
- Develops, maintains, and updates guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards due to changing information technology with regards to information security needs and issues involving access to automated information systems

FOR ENTRY AT THE GS-11:In Addition to the Basic Requirement Above: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade
(GS-9) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
- Specialized Experience is described as: Conducting information systems security evaluations, audits, and reviews to identify vulnerabilities, risks and protection needs of information systems; developing security specifications, technical controls and testing plans for automated information systems; reviewing audit results and implementing recommendations relating to security and information assurance policy and procedures.
FOR ENTRY AT THE GS-12:In Addition to the Basic Requirement Above: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade
(GS-11) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
- Specialized Experience is described as: Evaluating, maintaining, implementing and deploying Information Systems security tools, applications and software; interpreting contingency planning documents and guidelines and Information Assurance (IA) policies and procedures; developing, implementing, and coordinating activities to ensure protection of IT systems, services, and software; monitoring and evaluating system and software compliance with IT security requirements.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
EducationSUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: A qualifying Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
