Role: APIGEE Development Engineer

Type: Contract

Position Overview:

  • In the role of APIGEE Development Engineer, you are responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining API proxies and shared flows on Apigee Edge/Apigee X. This role focuses on end to end API development, API lifecycle management, security implementation, and integration engineering to support scalable enterprise API ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement API proxies, shared flows, and reusable patterns using Apigee Edge or Apigee X.
  • Implement RESTful API specifications aligned with enterprise architecture and business requirements.
  • Manage & Maintain API lifecycle: design, document, creation, versioning, publishing, retiring, and enforcing governance standards.
  • Integrate identity and access management flows and ensure alignment with enterprise security standards (OAuth2, JWT, API keys, TLS/mTLS).
  • Collaborate with backend teams to expose backend services through secure, scalable APIs.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues involving network flows, backend services, authentication/authorization, and request transformations.
  • Monitor & Optimize API performance, caching behavior, proxy routing, and traffic management.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for API build, testing, deployment, and promotion through Dev, Test, and Prod environments.
  • Use Git, Jenkins, Maven, and similar tools for configuration and build automation.
  • Participate in automated governance workflows and reusable framework development.

Technical Skills

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee Edge / Apigee X / Apigee Hybrid.
  • 8+ years of hands-on strong expertise in creating API proxies, shared flows, and custom policies.
  • 8+ years of hands-on proficiency in RESTful API design principles and JSON/XML transformation.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with API testing and debugging tools such as Postman and Splunk.
  • 8+ years of hands-on skills in JavaScript, Java, Python, or Node.js for scripting and custom logic.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
  • 5+ years of hands-on knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols: OAuth2, JWT, mTLS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Apigee Certification (Edge or X).
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) services.
  • Experience building enterprise-scale API platforms and governance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of microservices, Kubernetes, Docker, or service mesh architecture.
