Position: Senior Principal Computer Systems Architect
Location: San Diego, CA (Onsite)
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Principal Computer Systems Architect to support the design, integration, and sustainment of complex, mission-critical systems. In this role, you will play a key part in advancing enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives through model-based engineering, DevSecOps, Agile practices, and automation.
Responsibilities
Work closely with engineers and technicians in a lab and operational environment.
Review, analyze, and translate technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures.
Advise on the integration of emerging industry technologies into existing and future systems.
Implement and manage engineering changes throughout the system lifecycle.
Configure and manage system and network components, collaborating with peers and subject-matter experts.
Support system integration, troubleshooting, and sustainment activities.
Promote automation, standardization, and best practices across systems and processes.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a related field and 5+ years of relevant STEM experience
or equivalent practical experience (e.g., an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree).
Advanced, in-depth experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat preferred).
Experience working with Splunk for monitoring, logging, or analysis.
Knowledge of STIGs and system hardening, including DNS technologies (e.g., Linux BIND).
Scripting or programming experience using tools such as Bash/Shell, Ansible, Python, or similar.
Strong understanding of system integration and sustainment in Linux/Unix environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with system imaging, backup, restore, and related scripting tools (e.g., Clonezilla, Linux dump).
Experience leading technical efforts or coordinating work across engineering teams.
Hands-on experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift).
Strong experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, RH-V).
Working knowledge of networking concepts, including iSCSI connectivity.
Experience designing, implementing, and sustaining containerized and virtualized Linux systems.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver progress against defined milestones.
Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to process and technology improvements.
Flexibility to support alternate work schedules (e.g., second shift, extended hours, or occasional weekends) as needed.
