The Research Services Coordinator (RSC) is the firm's sponsored projects institutional representative for faculty and is the primary point of contact for external sponsors, RMS Award Specialists and Associates. Reporting to a Team Manager and partnering with faculty and departmental staff, the RSC directs and manages the proposal process to ensure timely, compliant and accurate submissions. This includes budget development; interpretation of sponsor requirements; subject matter expertise in grants and contracts and strategic advice, as well as institutional review and signature; ensuring that proposals meet sponsor, firm pre-award guidelines and regulations. The RSC is the institutional representative through the life of the award. The RSC is a professional staff member, promoting a collaborative model of stewardship among faculty and staff and is an advocate for a responsive, effective research administration process. Upon successful completion of certification, the RSC obtains delegated signature authority and will be reclassified to a Research Administrator 4.
- Involves providing analytical, financial and training activities in support of contract and grant proposal development, grant-writing, funding, administration, and budget development.
- Activities may include pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors.
- Involves activities associated with analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating and identifying and developing and / or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements; reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance and program success; negotiating, administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award / subcontract issuance and administration.
- Charged with providing support to RMS proposal and award teams. Supervised by a Team Manager, the RMS Associate provides support to 6-7 Research Services Coordinators (RSCs) or award team specialists and 1 Team Manager.
- Responsible for independently gathering, following-up on proposal and award materials with Principal Investigator (PI), project collaborators and subcontractors as assigned (biosketches, other support, effort and salary information), starting the stages of application preparation, and compiling final documents (includes proper formatting, page limits, updated forms, and ensuring that all components are in order) for proposal submission and award completion.
Required Skills:
- The department is seeking a candidate that is familiar with Pre-Award Research Administration, Budget Development, and Proposal submission, especially with National Institutes of Health (NIH) applications.
