Summary/Objective

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Interoperability to lead our enterprise-wide interoperability strategy. This role will oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable healthcare data integrations across EMR systems, ensuring seamless data exchange and operational excellence. You will serve in the role of a project manager for interoperability projects, serve as the executive liaison for interoperability initiatives across internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in healthcare interoperability, proven leadership in managing complex integration programs, and a strong understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, technical acumen, and operational execution.

Essential Functions:

  • Define and execute the organization''s interoperability roadmap aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interoperability strategy across departments and external partners.
  • Leader of all interoperability projects.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation for integration initiatives.
  • Architect and validate enterprise-grade integration solutions using HL7, FHIR, APIs, and ETL pipelines.
  • Drive automation, performance optimization, and error handling across interoperability workflows.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead training and knowledge transfer initiatives across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Collaborate with clients, EMR vendors, and internal teams to define integration requirements and success metrics.
  • Ensure effective communication and documentation across all project phases.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare interoperability, with at least 3 years in a director role.
  • Expertise with Epic EMR interoperability is required.
  • Expertise in HL7, FHIR, SOAP and APIs.
  • Strong understanding of integration architecture, data transformation, and cloud platforms.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and project management methodologies.
  • Own the full lifecycle of interoperability projects from planning through execution and delivery.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for interoperability initiatives.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all interoperability solutions comply with HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant regulations
  • Collaborate with information security teams to maintain secure data exchange protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments for integration systems.
  • Stay current with evolving interoperability standards such as TEFCA and USCDI.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance integration capabilities.
  • Lead change management efforts during integration rollouts.
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment and adoption of new interoperability solutions.
