Partner with the bestAs a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering lifecycle, from the architectural design of our global runtime to the operational implementation of our SRE practices.
As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the technical strategy for our next-generation product infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security for millions of concurrent executions.
- Owning the platform's end-to-end SLOs, upholding high standards for system availability, latency, and performance through a robust SRE practice.
- Developing and executing observability strategy and roadmap that aligns with SLO targets.
- Overseeing contributions to/investments in the open-source Wasm-based runtime and tooling, as well as our proprietary control and data-planes.
- Driving the implementation of secure, automated CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates to ensure consistent global delivery.
Do what you loveTo be successful in this role you will:
- Have 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or its equivalent.
- Have a proven track record of delivering high-quality, resilient, supportable software, ideally having reached a Staff or Principal level.
- Demonstrate experience building and scaling high-throughput distributed systems that directly serve live production traffic.
- Possess familiarity with serverless computing paradigms and modern cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
- Have an understanding of SRE principles, including error budgets, SLIs/SLOs, and automated incident management.
- Have proficiency in IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and modern CI/CD frameworks (GitHub Actions, CloudBees, Jenkins).

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $183,600 - $381,400/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
