Role Description

Are you passionate about working outdoors and contributing to NYC's green infrastructure? Join our dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists as a Green Infrastructure Intern focused on Trees and Sidewalks (T&S) projects across the five boroughs of NYC. This part-time, as-needed (PTAN) position offers opportunities to work on engineering and concrete-related construction with an arboriculture component.

You will gain valuable mentorship from our green infrastructure team, working closely with NYC Parks programs to support urban forestry and natural systems restoration throughout the city.

Role Accountabilities
  • Conduct pre- and post-construction inspections to verify work compliance with specifications on Trees and Sidewalks projects.
  • Perform on-site measurements and track quantities accurately.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and expert tracking records.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the city's urban forest resources during interactions with residents and landowners.
  • Administer all Health & Safety (H&S) procedures as required by the owner and detailed in the H&S manual.
  • Report regularly to resident engineers, project leads, and professional engineers (PE) to facilitate effective communication and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to sustainable, eco-conscious initiatives.

Desired Attributes and skills

The ideal candidate has strong Microsoft Excel and SharePoint skills, is proficient at reading and interpreting design plans, specifications, and shop drawings, communicates clearly in writing and verbally, works well independently and in diverse teams, pays close attention to detail with a strong work ethic, and is eager to learn and be mentored in green infrastructure and urban forestry. This role requires access to a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license to travel between project sites across NYC.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
  • Possession of an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship or related experience in construction, civil, or environmental engineering.
  • Experience with construction restoration or oversight.
