Summary
Role: Senior HPC Software Engineer
Location: Colorado Springs, CO (Onsite)
Duration: Long term contract
This role requires an active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph at the time of onboarding
Embedded onsite with specific R&D customer for direct collaboration
Job description:
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with HPC users to port, optimize, and parallelize scientific computing codes
- Mentor junior engineers and scientists, providing technical guidance and code review sessions
- Design and deliver training workshops, tutorials, and documentation for HPC tools and best practices
- Work closely with program Chief Scientist, TUS team lead, and customer stakeholders
- Conduct system performance analysis through benchmarking and tuning libraries
- Focus on scientific modeling, numerical processes, and computational software optimization
- Investigate, analyze, and recommend solutions for user codes and HPC software issues
- Help users adapt to production shared resources, scheduling systems, and high-performance data storage
- Apply best practices to maximize utilization of HPC resources and secure computing environments
- Support workflow requirements for modeling, simulation, and data analysis
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline with 10+ years professional experience
- 5+ years developing modeling and simulation software in heterogeneous, multi-platform environments
- Experience with HPC user workflows for modeling/simulation problems and GUIs
- Deep knowledge of High Performance Computing environments and technologies
- Demonstrated proficiency in Fortran, C, and/or C++ programming languages
- Expert-level BASH and Korn scripting skills
- Linux Operating System proficiency with ability to solve complex end-user problems
- Proficiency in software best practices (coding standards, unit testing, configuration management)
- Strong ability to analyze, debug, and maintain large, existing codebases
- Experience designing and delivering technical training and workshops
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience mentoring junior engineers with technical guidance and career development
- Revision control software expertise (CVS, SVN, Git)
- Build/install tools proficiency (CMake, Makefile, autoconf)
- Python and Perl programming experience
- GPU programming experience (CUDA, OpenCL)
- Agile process and JIRA experience
- AI/ML/Neural Networks background
- Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize multiple projects
- Excellent communication skills and team collaboration abilities
- Creative problem-solving and analytical thinking
