About the Role

The Security Engineering team at Uber is focused on making the production and corporate environments secure by default to provide industry-leading solutions for Uber's production services and infrastructure. As a manager in the Authorization Platform/core security engineering, you will leverage your solid software engineering and security background to lead the team that is dedicated in ensuring the protection of Uber's core services, datastores, and infrastructure. We are focused on building both security primitives and products that help other engineering teams to secure their systems, build trust, and advance security to enable our global business.

Your will lead a talented team of engineers who are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced security solutions to strengthen Uber's security posture by securing Uber's infra, improving automation and efficiency, and working cross-functionally with various stakeholders to mitigate security risks.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals, experience with critical distributed systems/libraries, passionate about cybersecurity/IAM, excels at fostering team growth, and is not afraid to dive into the codebase to lead by example.

What the Candidate Will Need

1. Set team direction by identifying technical priorities and opportunities, managing expectations, and considering tradeoffs.
2. Empower delivery by forming actionable plans, allocating responsibilities, and maintaining productivity across engineering teams with well-defined goals and metrics.
3. Develop team structure in alignment with broader organizational strategy and vision, owning: hiring, performance management, and employee development of individual contributors.
4. Empower the team to excel in their roles by providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities.
5. Provide technical leadership on delivering impactful solutions while maintaining technical excellence.
6. Provide thought leadership in leveraging Generative AI and Machine Learning to shift-left security.
7. Partner with cross-functional teams, including trip related core services, software networking, various business verticals (U4B, UberHealth) and compliance(PSD2, SOX, HIPAA), to enhance the organization's security posture.
8. Communicate security risks, architectural gaps, and solutions to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clarity and alignment.
9. Stay informed on emerging security threats, trends, and technologies to continuously enhance security practices.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----

01. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
02. 4+ years full-time work experience in software engineering, product development and/or security engineering prior to Engineering Management experience.
03. 3+ years full-time Engineering Management work experience.
04. Strong hands-on technical skills, including proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, Java, Python, C/C++) and code reviews.
05. Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, system design, and architecture.
06. Proven experience in owning critical and large-scale infra services/systems.
07. Proven ability to lead technical projects end-to-end, from design through deployment.
08. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a bias for action.
09. Ability to problems solve and make complex decisions with incomplete information in ambiguous situations and environments.
10. Experience building and scaling teams while maintaining a culture of technical excellence.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Master's Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
2. Experience in collaborating with teams over multiple locations, and working across multiple in-house engineering organizations
3. Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, tools, and best practices. Experience in authentication/authorization/IAM systems is a plus.
4. Experience with modern development practices (e.g., CI/CD, microservices, cloud platforms like AWS/Google Cloud Platform/OCI).
5. Experience building out integrations with open-source and vendor products.
6. Experience with AI/ML technologies / frameworks and incorporating them into production systems.
7. Proven track record of driving technical innovation and solving complex engineering challenges.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
