Position Overview

Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to implement, configure, manage, monitor, and provide strategic guidance for cloud infrastructure within VDOT''s Microsoft Azure environment.

This role requires a highly motivated cloud professional who is passionate about building and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient Azure environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with cloud infrastructure, migrations, disaster recovery, networking, security, monitoring, and enterprise operations.

The selected candidate will work closely with infrastructure teams, application teams, security teams, and executive leadership to ensure Azure resources are deployed and maintained according to enterprise standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure Administration

• Implement, configure, manage, and monitor Azure infrastructure resources
• Provide technical guidance on Azure architecture, networking, and security
• Support cloud governance and operational best practices
• Maintain highly available and secure Azure environments

Cloud Migration & Modernization

• Plan and execute migrations from on-premises environments to Azure
• Assess workloads and design migration strategies
• Support application modernization and cloud adoption initiatives
• Coordinate migration activities across multiple teams

Security & Compliance

• Implement Azure security controls and policies
• Support vulnerability remediation initiatives using enterprise security tools
• Collaborate with security teams to maintain compliance requirements
• Assist with security reviews and risk mitigation efforts

Monitoring & Operations

• Develop monitoring dashboards and alerts using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, and Alerts
• Ensure proactive observability and operational awareness
• Monitor production environments and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
• Support mission-critical applications and services

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies
• Develop and maintain DR plans and recovery procedures
• Conduct recovery testing and validation exercises
• Ensure minimal downtime and data loss during outages

Networking & Infrastructure

• Implement networking and security policies within Azure
• Configure virtual networks, routing, connectivity, and security controls
• Support hybrid cloud networking architectures
• Apply strong networking fundamentals and troubleshooting techniques

Required Qualifications

• Extensive experience administering Microsoft Azure infrastructure
• Experience planning and executing cloud migration initiatives
• Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise environments
• Strong understanding of Azure networking and security services
• Experience developing backup and disaster recovery strategies
• Experience using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, and Alerting capabilities
• Experience supporting vulnerability remediation and security initiatives
• Strong networking knowledge including OSI model and network protocols
• Experience troubleshooting production applications and infrastructure
