Summary

The Sensor Physicist will design, model, and drive custom product development of 3He and 10B radiation proportional counters, ion chambers, fission chambers, UV flame detectors, and NaI(Tl) gamma sensors. This role combines detector physics, computational modeling, signal processing, and product development to create and manufacture neutron, gamma-ray, and UV detectors.

This position requires a strong background in applied physics and the ability to translate scientific principles into commercially successful products through simulation, experimentation, data analysis, and cross-functional engineering collaboration, as well as to support product problem solving in a production environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design radiation detectors
    • 3He, 10B proportional counters
    • Ion chambers
    • Fission chambers
  • MCNP modeling
  • Review radiation detector / sensor designs
  • Write/update detector design practices en route to becoming a subject matter expert on radiation detectors
  • Work with the production team on detector manufacturing and performance troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with functions across the business to ensure success of the product lines
  • Data analysis and detector evaluation
  • Work with customers on new detector designs, RMAs, and prospective new technologies
  • Inform plant leadership on issues impacting production team efforts
  • Analyze and solve physics-related problems involving radiation detectors

Research & Development,
  • Convert customer requirements into system and product specifications.
  • Qualify new products
  • Present technical results to internal stakeholders, management, and possibly industry conferences.
  • Develop and expand Design Practices related to radiation detectors
