Role Overview
The Java Tech Lead serves as the primary technical leader responsible for the architecture, design, development, and delivery of complex, cloud-native enterprise solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic leadership—driving architectural standards, engineering best practices, and modern software development methodologies across full-stack application development, event-driven architectures, microservices, and integration platforms using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Angular, and AWS.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Leadership: Design, build, and maintain enterprise applications; lead design sessions, architectural reviews, and implementation planning. Establish engineering best practices across testing, security, and operational support.
- Technical Guidance: Provide hands-on mentorship through code reviews, technical coaching, and guidance while collaborating with Product Owners and Architects to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
- Development & Microservices: Implement microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures (using Kafka), and domain-driven design (DDD). Develop high-quality Java/Spring Boot solutions and configurable, rule-driven business processes.
- Messaging & Data: Perform Kafka administration, monitoring, and optimization. Design scalable data models, complex SQL queries, and integrations for high-performance applications.
- Cloud & DevSecOps: Drive AWS cloud-native designs (Lambda, S3, EC2, API Gateway, SNS/SQS, CloudWatch, CloudFormation) using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and lead CI/CD/DevSecOps implementations.
- Observability & Resilience: Establish standards for logging, monitoring, alerting, and distributed tracing. Build fault-tolerant solutions with retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and disaster recovery patterns.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Frameworks & Architecture: Deep expertise in Spring Framework (dependency injection, auto-configuration), externalized configuration patterns, microservices, REST APIs, enterprise integration, DDD, and event-driven architecture.
- Security & Observability: Strong grasp of OAuth2, JWT, API security, secrets management, secure coding, application monitoring, and distributed tracing.
- DevOps Culture: Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, automated testing, and software quality engineering.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience (8+ years in hands-on Java development).
- 3+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Solution Lead role.
- 5+ years with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
- 3+ years with Kafka (messaging, event streaming, and administration).
- Technical Stack:
- Hands-on development using Angular and modern web frameworks.
- Extensive experience in AWS environments (Lambda, S3, EC2, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch).
- Relational and/or NoSQL database design and advanced SQL optimization.
- CI/CD toolsets (Git, Jenkins, Jira).
- Preferred Experience: Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift) and monitoring solutions (CloudWatch, Splunk, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry).
