Summary

Thinkfind is seeking a Meteorologist to support the safe and efficient operation of a major transportation network by providing real-time weather monitoring, forecasting, analysis, and decision support to operations personnel. This individual will monitor weather conditions across a large geographic network, analyze radar, satellite, observational, and numerical weather prediction data, and identify developing conditions that could affect transportation operations, personnel, infrastructure, and equipment. The Meteorologist will provide timely forecasts, alerts, and operational briefings related to severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, high winds, extreme temperatures, snow and ice, heavy rainfall, flooding, wildfire conditions, and other hazardous weather events. Responsibilities may include assessing the potential timing, location, severity, and operational impact of weather events; monitoring changing conditions and updating forecasts; communicating actionable weather intelligence to dispatchers, operations leaders, field personnel, and emergency response teams; supporting weather-related operating decisions such as speed restrictions, train staging or rerouting, resource deployment, and service recovery; and helping develop or refine weather thresholds, procedures, reports, dashboards, and decision-support products used to reduce weather-related safety and service risks.

Qualified candidates should have a bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related discipline and professional experience in operational forecasting, preferably supporting transportation, aviation, utilities, energy, emergency management, or another weather-sensitive 24/7 operation. Candidates should have strong knowledge of severe and convective weather, winter weather, high-wind events, flooding and hydrometeorology, extreme temperatures, and other weather hazards; demonstrated ability to interpret radar and satellite imagery, surface observations, upper-air data, numerical forecast models, ensembles, and National Weather Service products; and experience with professional meteorological forecasting and visualization tools. Familiarity with GIS, weather APIs/data feeds, automated weather stations, and analytical or scripting tools such as Python, R, SQL, or similar technologies would be advantageous. The position requires excellent analytical judgment, situational awareness, attention to detail, and the ability to rapidly translate complex meteorological information into concise, actionable recommendations for non-meteorologists. Candidates must be comfortable making time-sensitive decisions in a safety-critical environment, communicating with operational leaders during significant weather events, collaborating across technical and operational teams, and potentially working rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call coverage in support of continuous operations.
