RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in need of a Senior BSP/Board Bring Up Engineer
Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, development, and deployment of Board Support Packages (BSPs) for embedded medical instruments from requirements definition through production release
* Perform initial board bring-up for embedded Linux platforms, including bootloader configuration, kernel bring-up, and hardware validation
* Develop, integrate, and maintain low-level software components supporting end-of-life (EOL) and next-generation hardware, including device drivers, system utilities, and validation tools
* Collaborate with hardware engineering teams on new board designs, providing software input on component selection, interfaces, and system architecture
* Implement and maintain software for core hardware subsystems such as display, audio, power management, storage, and peripheral I/O
* Develop and customize embedded Linux build systems using Yocto and OpenEmbedded to support scalable, secure, and maintainable platforms
* Execute and automate test plans to validate hardware functionality, system stability, performance, and reliability
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues across boot, kernel, driver, and application layers
* Enhance system efficiency, robustness, security, and scalability through continuous software improvements
* Support connectivity features including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, ensuring reliable integration and performance
* Read and interpret hardware schematics, datasheets, and technical documentation to support software-hardware integration
* Participate in peer design and code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices
* Maintain software configuration management using version control and change-tracking tools
* Contribute to technical documentation, design specifications, and validation reports in support of regulated medical device development
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
* 5+ years of embedded systems programming experience in C
* Proven hands-on experience with initial board bring-up of embedded Linux systems
* Strong understanding of operating system concepts, including scheduling, memory management, multi-threading, and interrupt handling
* Deep knowledge of embedded systems concepts such as RTOS, device drivers, bootloader development, hardware diagnostics, and distributed system design
* Experience working with Yocto and OpenEmbedded build systems
* Familiarity with hardware I/O subsystems including display, audio, power, and connectivity interfaces
* Experience integrating Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on embedded platforms
* Ability to read and interpret schematics and component datasheets
* Experience with software configuration management and version control tools
* Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional development environment
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
