Your Opportunity

The Structural Senior Project Engineer provides technical design and leadership for a wide range of projects and services in Stantec's Buildings structural engineering group. The Senior Project Engineer leads the technical design, execution, and delivery of projects as subject-matter-expert, mentor, and as a resource to the technical team. Position regularly leads, directs, and delegates work of Project Engineers, Engineers, and Designers in addition to work which may also be self-performed. Role will conceptualize, execute, and ensure quality throughout the design process to meet our clients' needs and expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will also have supervisory and mentoring responsibilities for junior staff and opportunities to be an internal resource to other structural engineers.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for a wide range of project types, sizes, and complexities including data centers and mission critical facilities, healthcare, commercial, life-sciences, higher education, industrial, civic, and institutional among others for new and existing construction.
  • Leads a team(s) for the structural analysis, design, documentation, and construction administration of building projects. For smaller projects and for certain activities, these may be self-performed.
  • Plans and manages technical work and staffing within the group as required to effectively deliver projects, supports client relationships, assists with developing new business, and positions the group to accomplish and achieve long term goals.
  • Delegates tasks to project engineers and designers within own discipline as appropriate.
  • Participates in virtual and in-person project meetings, workshops, in-person site observations, and other similar activities in support of Stantec's project delivery.
  • Follows Stantec's quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before all QA/QC reviews done by the technical authority.
  • Maintains strong client relations; able to understand and articulate project and design requirements, progress, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff.
  • Coordinates well with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design.
  • Coordinates and monitors the work of staff. Monitors performance and implement improvements. Ensures the quality of product is in accordance with Stantec standards. Provides technical support where necessary.
  • Acts as supervisor and resource to technical design team; supports and assists staff education and development.
  • Assists the Practice Leader in marketing and business development for the group as well as coordinating with corporate marketing.
  • Performs employee annual performance review and quarterly check-ins for all direct reports. Document discussions and goal progress. Review competencies and areas for improvement.
  • Incorporates objectives of employee's career development plan into team assignments.
  • Mentorship of employees for advancing technical skills, developing project management and people skills, and executing at a high level which meets or exceeds Stantec standards.
  • Manages Stantec's technical project process and scope of work within own discipline; reviews schedule and budgeted hours; finds and resolves all inconsistencies with project manager.
  • Connects project profitability with direct reports daily tasks
  • Assists with utilization targets of your direct reports (project work or guiding to a corporate or business unit initiative)
  • Ensures employees adhere to and understand all policies and procedures
  • Actively participates in the engineering/professional community to build personal knowledge and professional growth (e.g. attends meetings / seminars / conferences and/or write articles for trade magazines.)

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principals in other disciplines.
  • Able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems and interactions with varied disparate components.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills and experience.
  • Proficient in applicable software (ie, REVIT and CAD among others)
  • Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, co-workers, and technical teams (e.g. work plan, statement of work, and 2-way communication.)
  • Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Equipped to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative.
  • Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer's discipline.

Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years related industry experience
  • Registered Structural Engineer (SE) license or other professional license or certification based on expertise required.

About the Team

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
