Summary
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL environments across dev, test, and production supporting enterprise applications.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies for high availability and optimal response times.
- Design and enforce backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard business-critical data.
- Implement and manage replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions (streaming replication, Patroni, pgpool) to meet uptime SLAs.
- Administer database security, including role-based access control, encryption, and compliance with data protection standards.
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams on upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.
Experience and Skills
- 7+ years hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL in enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals — query optimization, indexing strategies, vacuum/autovacuum tuning.
- Experience with high-availability and replication tools such as streaming replication, Patroni, repmgr, or pgpool-II.
- Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python) for automating routine DBA tasks.
- Familiarity with cloud-managed PostgreSQL services (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform Cloud SQL).
- Solid understanding of backup/recovery tools (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL-E/WAL-G, Barman).
- Relevant certification (e.g., EDB Certified PostgreSQL Associate/Professional) preferred.
