Scope of the Project
This 12-month contract supports a large higher-education IT organization in the design, development, and support of a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. The role includes building and supporting Windows-based systems and images, providing advanced engineering and technical support, and delivering one-on-one training to designated System Administrators.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate must be able to meet all CUI compliance requirements.
This mid-to-senior-level Citrix VDI Architect will provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support for a Citrix/XenApp server environment. The role requires deep technical expertise to analyze and support complex system initiatives involving multiple integrated platforms.
Responsibilities include reviewing user requirements, identifying technical issues, proposing solutions, and supporting the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise VDI systems.
Core Duties
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support for Citrix / XenApp server environments
Monitor VDI platforms using tools such as NetScaler and ControlUp
Support:
Ensure virtual desktop sessions operate as intended
Handle VDI-related requests and escalations from the helpdesk
Ensure all Citrix platform servers are fully patched and updated
Support XenDesktop Broker services, including monitoring and alerting
Support Citrix and VMware components responsible for application and desktop delivery
Maintain high client satisfaction for supported platforms and services
Serve as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for VDI and Citrix technologies
Address all technical inquiries related to VDI and Citrix environments
Participate in client and stakeholder meetings to provide technical updates
Deploy and support core Microsoft services including:
Active Directory (AD)
ADFS
DNS & DHCP
WSUS
Group Policy
Qualifications & Experience
Required Education
Required Certification
Required Skills (Ranked)
5+ years of experience with Citrix XenApp
5+ years of experience with XenServer administration
5+ years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments
5+ years of experience with Citrix App Layering
Preferred Skills
Experience troubleshooting complex systems, identifying root causes, and developing remediation plans
Experience supporting large-scale, complex VDI environments
CUI Compliance Requirements
Only approved workspaces defined in the Technology Control Plan (TCP) may be used to access, store, process, or transmit regulated research data
Regulated data must be accessed exclusively through an approved secure VDI environment from authorized onsite or approved remote locations
Workstations must be positioned to prevent unauthorized viewing, and systems must be locked when unattended
