We are a well-respected, regional law firm seeking a skilled and motivated Construction Attorney to join its growing Sarasota, Florida office. The ideal candidate will have experience handling complex construction and commercial litigation matters and will work closely with developers, contractors, subcontractors, owners, architects, engineers, and insurers on a wide range of disputes and transactional matters.

This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated construction-related cases in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Job Details

Responsibilities
  • Handle all phases of construction litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts and related agreements
  • Represent clients in matters involving: Construction defects, Delay and disruption claims, Payment disputes, Mechanics liens, Breach of contract claims, Insurance and indemnity issues
  • Provide strategic legal counsel and risk management guidance to clients
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, motions, and briefs
  • Manage case files and maintain strong client communication throughout the litigation process
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, experts, and consultants on complex matters

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in the Florida Bar
  • 3+ years of construction law and/or commercial litigation experience preferred
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience with depositions, hearings, and dispute resolution processes
  • Familiarity with Florida construction law, lien law, and AIA contract documents preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment

Preferred Skills
  • Construction defect litigation experience
  • Arbitration and mediation experience
  • Strong client relationship and business development skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
